Latttt from South America. Intelligence from Angostura, to the ;,d of May. by a gentleman arrived in tlii city, states that Holivar was on the right hank of the Aranca with about 1000 mm, including an English division of 900. Moriilo was on the opposite side with 6000. A brilliant affair took place on the 1 1th of April bet ween the cavalry of the patriot gen. Pac., and a part of Morillo's force in which the royalist! lost $00 men." Wc also learn that a smart affair had previously taken place, the result of which as favorable to the patriots.
It is the opinion of
gentleman, just from Venezuela, that the prospect in that country is grow
ing brighter for
that Bolivar will not risk the success ot the cause on a general action, without having the whole of his forces to support him; that more correct and liberal principles of government prevail than hitherto, and that there will be no more dictatorships allowed. Franklin ( iaz. The capture of M'Oregor's little band, consisting of about 250 men, at Potto Hello, by the Spanish gen. More s, on the 3 th of April, is confirmed by letters from Havatma.

cipal body were in a fort, they made a strong resistance, and obtained honorable terms by capitulation. Thirty were killed and 10 wounded ; the Spanish loss very small. The congress of Venezuela have 1 eeil in session, and various important topics were before them. The project of a constitution, presented by general Holivar, had been under consideration, and after i short debate postponed. M It seems, however, that their plans partake of some things of the federative character ; as they contemplate three great nations, to be connected by a delegate body of representatives from the three great nations, Who like the Amphyctions, are to exercise no function but those delegated to them, not to institute any law but such as shall be previously submitted to the congress of the three nations. M The central nation to consist of New Grenada, Peru and Venezuela. The southern to consist ofl.a Plate, Chili and Paragua, fcc. The northern ration of Mexico, Guatamala 5c the Isthmus, and to have a permanent establishment at the common expense ind for common benefit.
IMPORT.LYTF TRUE. By an arrival from Gibraltar 'at N. Haven, we learn that the bearer of the Treaty between the United States and Spain, relative to the cession of the Yorfrat, on his way to Madrid, was plundered by a liid of robbers, who took from him tHtreaty. We canno' therefore hophcar of the ratification of the treatyth rough any other channel than that of Mr. Forsyth. Democratic Pres.
A HEW COMET. A Unmet has lately been discovered at the observatory of Konigsburg, in Germany, in the constellation of the Swan. It is not visible to the naked eve. Phil. Union. KrThti is the same comet, wc presume, now visible to the naked eye if so, it must be approaching our

Extract of a letter from a gentleman in New-York, to his friend in this cil v. M Jacob Barker's Rank is shut up this day, in consequence of a heavy run upon him yesterday to meet the Washington Warren Bank Notes, Which he met in specie at 9 1 per cent, discount. The Northern Whig, printed at Hudson, says that this bank no longer redeems its paper in specie or the bills of other banks. From the .Yational Advocate. The Bank of Hudson has been long in a galloping consumption, and its dissolution gradually anticipated. The question is who suffers ? The rich merchant, the dashing speculator, or the other incorporated banks ? No the poor farmer, the indstrious mechanic, and the laboring citizen ; a three dollar note of this dead bank is a serious loss to the poor man. But is the evil to end here ? I fear not. The unnecessary increase of these corporate bodies and speculating institutions, will produce much embarrassment among the poor, and their notes should be cautiously received. The loss of a dollar to a poor man is Felt at present with peculiar Force. Philadelphia, June 23. United States' Bar.k Stock continues the same as yesterday ; 89 being offered, 90 asked. The Branch Bank of the State of Tennessee in Nashville, suspended the payment of Specie on the 29th June, ult. Whig. A List of Letters
