Mr Since my becoming a cttizenof this state, which is bul :cently, 1 have been much ai a !(ss to account for the current of opposition which your u ministration appears to meet
with at this time, knowing as I do. that VOtl were called to your present honorable situation, by the almost unanimous oice of the good people of the sta:c : and what very much ini creases in; astonishment is. I tat this opposition is of no oi d nary character for I am told tnat the most formidable part is confined to and emanates from those who have been you? firm friends, warm adherents & devoted supporters in time past. What then sir can lie the carjseof this t s t o ni shi ng c h ange ? Have 1 not reason to believe m in a stran 'erthat something marvellous has transpired since you were scared in the gubernatorial chair or whence the can e of th! wonderful falling off ? here am certainly stories z ring abroad, which il true, evidence that vou have very far aberrated fnun the line of your duty add the track prescribed to you by the Constitution of your state, and which vou ould, by all means in your p iwer, attempt to silence ; this you can, without doubt effectually accomplish by coming oul in the plain language of ti i confess your wanderings li my. and. manifest a repentant disposition, ami if innocent deny the justice of the charges positively. J those means vou avoid the stigma that will inevitably attatch to yourname and character if the present Itate of opinion continues. Your present dignified station sr. may induce you to treat this plain, candid manner of a ! dressing you. as something be neath your notice; if such should be the case, T shall ta!.e it for granted that vou plead guiltv But should you he disposed to r. solve the doubts which T and many others are forced to entertain of you from what we have heard f which I humbly conceive to be vour bounden dutv you will please to answer the following Querriei, ami I truly hope sip, that vour answers will be such as 1. in charity to you, hope they may be. And, t. Were you, while a memher ol Congress instrumental in preventing Thomas Posey, the then Governor of the Indiana Territory, from appointing Davis Floyd, Esq. to an inconi lerable office in sad I em toIon And did vou not after wa Is under your own admin istration appoint the said Plovd i a more dignified office lie good to state the reasonof your objectiona as made known to Gov. Posey, and the
cause of your change of con-

Blake professed himself your political and vio lent enemy, when he came into this Government, and that lie -aid all manner of evil of vou and vour administration ? If you did know this Did you ippoint the said IJ'.ake youi Aid. and did he not refuse to accept the appointment and treat it with the utmost con tempt ? 3d Did vou know that Thoo mas H Blake had fought a duel in violation of the laws of I he state, 6c that in consequence )f which it was decided by the -up: erne court, after solemn argument, that he the said Blake was disqualified by the aforesaid act from practising at the bar as a common lawyer ? and if vou did know this fact, did vou not immediately after the -aid decision appoint the said Blake a Circuit Judge of the first Judicial Circuit of this -taterand if you did, do you not know thai in case his official acts should ever be canvassed by t'he proper authority, hat they must be declared void at the expense of the suitors? 4th. Did you not know that the laws of this state prescribe the mode of electing Clerks, & that they positively enact that the person having the highest number of votes, shall be com missioned by the Governor ? If you did by what kind of ma gic did you transcend the limits of said law by withholding a commission from Gen M'Farland, who was elected Clerk ol Jefferson county by a laroe majority, and by what authority did you order a new election ? 5th. Did vou not know that the laws of the state render it your duty as Governor to make out and transmit to t legislature upon request, a true statement of the tate Bank & its Branches ? If so. are vou not a director of the Branch bank at Corydon, arm as such sworn to secrecy ? And are not the duties of Governor and Bank Director incompatible in their very nature. and must you not either contravene the law which imperiously renders i( your duty as Governor tore port, by wi t hholding or refusi ng such report, or in cae you feel a disposition to discharge your duty in this particular, will not vour oath of secrecy as Bank Director, stare vou in the face ? 6th. Did vou not demand from the Governor of Kentucky persons who have been indicted for a breach of the penal laws of this State for Kidnapping negroes ? If so, has the Governorof Kentucky eiven you any satisfaction as to said demand ? If not. why let this circumstance steep, $ why do vou not, as the Governor I of an Independent stafe and a tree people, assert their rights ? ?th Do vou not know that there is a section in our constitution which says that 4 no members of Oongess or persons holding any office undev the United States or this state shall exercise the office of Governor or Lieut. If so. did you exercise any office un derthe United States since vou were Governor and if vou did, did you not refuse to shew or explain to thp rWuUtnrP the nature of that office, and thereby cause a length v inaui- - - ' m. M v. m v v v i (Mi that sunie t to hp had many witnesses sworn without . - V . . . - effecting their object, at a very i great expenie to the state, and
were you represented by conn-

Or do vou claim it as a right to ceep the whole state in susnence md darkness on a subject so important to the preservation if the vitals of the constitution? Be so good as to state the name ol that appointment and he reasons which induced vou to keep it concealed from the Legislature, who I am informed, very humbly requested you to give them the desired information, in the compliance with which request, time and money might have been saved for better purposes. 8th. If so, did you not appoint two of the members of the General Assembly of last year as Judg -of Circuit Courts, if so, is not tnisaurcnoiineconsuTuiionr i .i. - ytn uio vou not noia o t to the people of the second Jo dicial Civ nit that the method you would pursue for the appointmcnt ofa Judge for said t'nvtnt, to fill the vacancy occa si or led lv the resignation of judge Haymond would be to consult the representatives from the different counties in said circuit, and if vou did ive such assurances, is it true tnat vtui left unconsulted one member in Giatk and one member in ackson county who wouiu have been unfavorable to your favorite candidate ? And did you pursue the same policy in the appointment of Thomas H Blake .J and if you did not, what was the cause of your in consistency ? Now my dear sir. correct k satisfactory answers to the fore going questions will be the basis on which will rest my good or ill opinion of youradminis t rati on, and perhaps more than my opinion u ill depend on the same condition.
