THE WE8TERN SUN.
VINCENNE9 : .S. TURD A t , Ja svar r 1 ft, l B 1 9. The cab llitig falsifying spirit ol the 7 UttC 1 ruak, McNatnee, declares in his last weeks Centinel, that Esquire tira ter'a letter was a private one nd tataincd no denial of the falsehood pre rifely published. We have again waitdtMr. Graetcr, and he repeats what md informed us before: and adds. that thereis nothing ftrivate in the letter! Now how does the matter stand? Thl kittle doctot had asserted without a hadow of truth, tl t our editorial remarks were nOtOtiroWflJ we deservedly gave him the lie : he, as usual, reC vied the untruth, i. said we had made OUt accounts upon the back of a manu;ri ;t and sent them to another magistrate ; we again gate him the lie ; he referred ill to Mr. Graeter we wonts Mr. Graeter informed us that he had written, to the doctor, contradicting the ndsebood ; we then called on the doctor to publish lite letter; he replies it is a 'Liriva? v" one, and he is not at liberty to publish it ! still persisting however, ;:i I i Unfounded declarations 1 1 f foW if it eve) were a fact that We had ed the back of a Worthless manuscript tor the purposes the little doctor aled it could not in any degree supj tl e declarations made with regard to our remarks ; hut when it is not so ; When we never did make OUt any account a v. as stated, it only adds another to the long cat ilogue of the little doctor1 lies. The various statements of that being, admit of no excuse or palliation; but as we foretold, he can always resort ' t 1. u us pocus slander and abuse are Xalways at hand. Such pure, unmixt, ltnadultered meanness and baseness, can - .1 i rr- . i i . nave jy) eueci in mis community, u I must excite general abhorrence He may now publish the letter or not j ust as he pleases. it won in rc'iuire a mm warneti nvnre1 'i ire far beyond the guidance of reason or truth, to place any reliance on the itatements made in the Ccntincl. We told our fellow-chizens when that establishment was sent here, the injurious coune it would pursue. To abuse, divide and slander, is one chief object md to support the views and interests of J innings at all hazards, another. Now wc will only ask, has it not in the most unprincipled manner, pursued that course ? Jennings may transcend his p er as a chief magistrate ; or he may art contrary to the provisions of our contitUtion but the little doctor, who dil . the Centinel can do more ; he can jet the character and actions of our citi- - n , in what light he pleases; he can vilify those who despise his baseness, thus endeavor to cover fraudulent designs. For instance he can inveigh a ; i n t Lieut. Gov. Harrison for telling the people the simple unadorned truth in regard to governor Jennings , he can reCW matters long since discussed and d icided in the public mind ; and he can at the same lime, in the most assassin like manner tax his invention to stab private character. O, the ittlr doc rou is an admirable editor But he certainly errs it he thinks a uo- of his venom. will act on character, as a dose ' f hisarsnic might on the human sys4 - as a political empiric he should r 4 t tbfln ibsurdly ; and as an unprincipled hypocrite he will certainly, if he Continues at it, immortalise himself. We t :, however, that he will on all occafions exorcise his memory at least; fjr when he pretends to give his readers the QaUse of our differences, and imits the thi 'and jfrst tautt if I ks somewhat tttrmnge ! Indeed doctor sr; ;h crawling fabrications exactly resemble you ; t!, -arc so absurd and weak as to l ok 1 Tike old women's dreams, than si rioua accusations. But when the real difference touched upon, namely, that Jon4?an fennings sent the Centinel press here, that he paid a stipulated sum to tors, was responsible for its debts; mat sucn a press could only deceive, injure, and impose upon the people for . t w . i .... Ihe interests of faction, and the degraiation of the state ; it clearly appears you are resolved to stop at nothing. In savins what we have here said, we ITitt ltd it shall close any notice exrfpt what may become iitdispensible, of the l! i rLE doctors habitual mistatcments. We were long since aware, that in confending with htm, we are contending it'n a depraved calumniator, and a more ; I in tom. Stoi t, Sin As the quack bull doctor w ho is the chief director of Jennings' presv, cannot by any possible means relieve himself from the heavy load of infamy his slanderous falsehoods have purchased for him, he continues to bespatter With personal abuse, all who despise his dissimulation and meanness The most vile fabrication! arc sent into circulatuijL by hbm thinking thereby to d:ivrlnfcc attention from his own deprav ifjrW In the Centinel of last wcel taj of pretensions to literature as. t Ho ugh he was qualified to judge yet it is a notorious fact, that when this same slanderer, McXamcc, was a member of the board of Trusters, he could not write a simple resolution or ordinance with correctness. But 1 suppose now that he is an editor, forsooth, he must be a competent judge of style ! '. so was my blind grandmother of spectacles 1 As I have really a great desire to reed 1 history composed bv this doctor dull, I hope you will invite him mo ' cordially to proceed with that work promised in his last; and in the meantime a he hafifien fo be charged ttVj systematical lyings desire him to give the particulars of the 44 Wanton but courageous attack on the virtuous characters of defenceless females" Should the "attack" upon virtuous character' be the ordering of a certain fair sfiouse out of a garden into which she had clandes tinely made her way over a high fence for the purpose of rooting up young trees, without the then owner's knowledge or permission, it would be truly r hard case Or should it turn out to be a certain cir.-n ?nj&y 'fe1 a r happen'"'! when doctor Bull livcvfMfcye corner .i ai; ill I'd'arHHvv ! jnia, fBFiuvllv wash ing down his great acquiremcnUwitu what is commonly tailed' ' titfb nj1 wafer, it might be a curious cise ! Or should it be no matter let Kl:c what it mayi doctor Bull shall be aly remunerated for relating distinctly, all the particulars and by doing so he will very much oblige me as well as others. Indeed, his giving the particulars ot that ''attack," would very materially serve himself, if he can abstain from falsehood, subterfuge and prevarication ; for in that case, it might be determined with accuracv. whether a "mental" or "bodily" prescription is best suited for his complaint.
