States is authorised to direct the public lands which have been surveyed in the said territory, to be offered for sale : Therefore. I, James Monroe, Presi

certain lands in the territory of Missouri,

shall be heltl as follows, viz : t St Louis, in the said territory, on the first Mon

day in Vugust, October. December, February and April next, and three weeks after each of the said days, for the sab of lands in the land district of St. Louis. Thirty townships shall be offer ed at each sale commencing with tnc most eastern ranges west of the fifth principal meridian line, and proceeding Westerly. At the Seat of Justice for Howard County, in the said Territory, on the first Monday in September and November next, and three weeks after each of the said days, for the sale of lands in the land district of Howard County. Thirty townships shall be offered at each sale ; The first to be in a square form, and to include the seat of justice of the said county, as nearly in the centre as the situI 1 ation of the surveys will admit and the second immediately east of the first, and in the same form ; excepting from sale in each district, the lands which have been or may be reserved by law for other pu rposes. Situate in Davis county tndiana ; about 40 miles above the county seat (Washington), about 6o miles northeastwardly from Vincennes between 49 and 50 east of Terre-Hauie and SO miles west of Sloomington, on the eat bank of the west fo k of White River, 6 or 7 miles

above the moutn of Eel. The ground is airy and fertile, the air salubrious, & tie waters sweet and transparent ; from the river the land assends gently a Consider able distance back, affording an eminence of about 55 feet above the high vater mirk, (in the bank) then after passi n a few rods on a level the ground gradually descends to a small infail ble St' Cam of cool and wholesome water, vf Ich may be conveyed through all the lower parts of the town by pipes with a itnall cxpencc In the upper part of this two springs of delightful drinking water; and to all who shall reside in the western parts t the town, the aforesaid eminence will afford a fair view of one of the most handsome navi gable si reams that ornaments this state ; from the eastern parts of this tOWn after the view pa-sv abotlt a mile over a rich plain, it meets small and iertile hills, embellished with springs of l xcellent sweet Water Free and lime Stone quarries stone coal, an I Variety of timber for building and for C abinet work.
