lie observes in the last weeks Centir.t M ue have now brought the editor of the V Sum, to that point in controversy which we wished. From tins, and the clear, possi'ive, and uncontradicted ecrtiitcates of tWO respectable citizens, published in . ur paper of the 26. h tilt what may fairly be inferred ? Why that the Kittle doctor must really dispise and Scorn himself I for he declares immediv following the paragraph commencing with the ab ive quotation) that there i- n thing he more scorns than prostituting talent to subserve the politics of any governor.1 No man it i- true can justly impeach him with having talents" to prostitute. But as we have establish C( first bj Mr. Hall, on the authority of Doctor Mc. samce, that Jonathan Jcemugs sent the Centinel press to incenn 5, 2 lly, by Mr W. L. I olman, Upon the authority of the same little dspering doctor, that J. .'ennins was to pay Vlr. There are few citizens we bc- !'. ve, in the country, who have resided heec for the last ten years, who are not perfectly aware that for a certain description of low intrigue, and political pimpIn ;, this doctor stands entirely unrivall-

He may try to wrap himS4 tup in his hypocritical mantle of deception, and indirectly try to shout hosannas to :ir Jennings ; he mav try to silence the crv of execration against this governor for improper conduct, by the tX10t rancorous personal abuse, and by raising a clamour about matters ot no

I ipposed that this term was sent so tii H t'v I m bv our late correspondent " Bru 1: ' and iritk so muh force and
correctness, Biat it was indelibly fixed on the Centinel abettors, and their mi -crablc chief ; indeed it suited the conduct of the cabal so well that we could not have imagined he woul l again apply it to an overwhelming majority of the people. But it appears clearly, that man will stop at nothing ; reduced to extremities from the vile depiavity of his disposition and intentions, he will try every possible means to delude ; under the abased covering of republicanism, he thinks his deception will pass. Fortunately for truth, and the best interests of the state, the man is well known. His republicanism lias nevkLonsistcd of any t'aing else than ieXnocrecs prostitution venality and proscption ; ingredien S that ca i o ily incuclfcafrvil ty and lessen every moral obligation. Thus he woul i make Jennings entry thine honor, truth, ju tice our constitut.on and laws, and all the public and prhatc virtues of cn. Harrison, and gen. Taylor, nothing m Ins scale. Mr Jennings must be suppcrted in all his d ;.n;j;s and all his oppose rs must be crmdlied ! Hence the unprincipled ccurse we arc now reflecting upon is adopted ; and all tne cunning of certain characters set at work to uphold the system. It will not all do, however the executive hireling press may be paid here, but the people will not pay it ; they w ill not pay an engine that is intended to justify the destruction of their liberties, by the man w ho now rules our state the man who lias trampled upon justice, honor and lav.. Another charge mavle against us, is our having (rejected communications because they did not accord with the views of tile leaders of faction,' ThU it a wilful tnittatement. We published more for the little faction to which the doctor belongs than the public could relish ; ami we do not believe that wc ever refused that noisv set of men ad0 mission into our columns, even when justice and prudence would, strictly applied) have induced us to have done so, except on one occasion ; and on no occasion did we ever reject a piece offered lor publication, except our most sober and considerate judgment condemned it. The piece we allude to was in our opinion, not fit for public inspection, nor calculated to produce good it is yet in our possession; and whatever J. Jennings press mav issue we care not, but ours shall never be prostituted to the base purpose of slnder, nor shall the columns of our paper be occupied by personal invective, void of reason. On these
grounds the piece alluded to was by
rejected. But we never refused to giw
all the serviceable and cornet inform!
tion, wit!. in our reach to the peoplcjl since we began to edit a public paper ; and the course we have heretofore pursued, we shall steadily continue. Our freedom secured to us as it ever has been, requires no licentiousness of the press to give it strength ; and the men who indulge in lhat lieenciousness, arc most generally depraved and licentious at heart. e could give instances, hut 'tis unnecessary. Whether the doctor, with all his wheedling, and all the ai 1 of his faction, can now by publishing some such pieces as the one we rejected six or 7 years ago, can corrupt the correct principles cf republicanism) w hich our fellow citizens of the West have cer cherished and supported remains to bs seen We do hope and calculate however) that the people will remain true to themselves, and the real interests of the state, and that they will dispise the subservient and sycophantic tools of a governor who has never merited to be, nor never has been their choice. The French votes arc again brought forward in the last weeks Centinel also

Now we can inform him for the last time, that his perversion of facts creates nor merits no belief Let him prove the various statements lie baa given to his readers, and we shall then shew him how to make truth his object hereafter. In conclusion, we would solemnly and seriously advise doctor MeXamee. this w ell known) long established echo of faction, to turn his attention rather to the curing diseases of the human foody, than to the prolongation and encrcae of those 1 destructive and dreadful diseases which HOW afTeet the body politic of the state.

Why the) wither and fade like the leaves in autumn. The Centinel of last week Mends the names of Jumtt Mudian and Jonathan
Jennings together, in a false charge against Brutus ! What a perverted ision and servile devotion to Jennings that man must have who will attempt to connect such men! the one a venerable patriot, whose wisdon, talents and patriotism have received an everlasting fame the other an ambitions, restless man, an apostate from the principles that guide rtfiubiicans, with a miserable portion of either wisdom or talents and whose patriotism for aught wc know , has been alone manifested by disturbing the harmony of the state ever since he got into pubiic life, and quitting Ins family and home, when but a handful of Indians made their appearance in ins neighborhood during tiiast war. lie will soon, by a cfHflTcc of his present course, have thcTkct forced upon cur belief, that the man cannot really tell the truth. Can he point to a solitat v sentence reflecting upon Mr. Madison ? He can point to some rem rks on the proclamation issued some vearsago f r driving settlers off the p-tb'ic lands, under the head of Farmers and Patriots Rights," which censured his conduct in that panic uiai ; but we defy him, duriatj the ten yea-s we have conducted rTs paper, to point to a single sentence in its columns that blames, or reflects discredit on any other act of Mr Madison's life or administration. And were not the remarks under the head of M Farmers St Patriots Rights" correct, and w 11 timed ? Let the little doctor answer if he dare, and then wc will rccal to memory a certain story about Mr. Jennings and some others at this place, whose information it was said produced the proclamation that caused them. An attempt is also made in the last week's ( entinel, to justify on the principles of their prospectus, the course they hac pursued. This is preposterous let their readers turn to their prospectus, and see what is there promised ; it is there said, they would inform the people of every approach of danger. Have they done so ? Have they not justified error palliated crime vilified character, and by means the most despicable, endeavored to delude one portion of the people by calling a large majoiity 44 a federal faction ?" This is their way, and nothing else could be expected from such men. They have also attempted to compare
the writers in the two papers : this wc

In the Centinel no point of public interest has been adhered to they have abu
sed Brutus, without answering his arguments ; they have in the most disgusting manner, carressed Jonathan Jennings; they have attempted to damn gen. Harrison and gen Taylor ti e first because he publicly addressed the people to correct the unfounded statements sent into circulation respecting him; the last, because the faction want some creature of their own in the senate of the U. States. This has always been their course. Whilst the w riters in the V Sun, 'nave adhered to truth, and have censured the public conduct of the publics servants, where censure has been well merited they have also on every occasion inculcated doctrines that will tend to secure our liberties and rights judge of the ditTertr.ee. EMBRYO INVASION OF MEXICO A gentleman now in this city, and late from New -Orleans, reports, that the fortified camp established, near Trinity iiver, in the province of Taxas, continues to receive, almost daily, xolunteers; that il the forces augments for one year longer, in the proportion it has for some time past, there can be no doubt they will have a cocentration at this point adequate to strike at once for the liberation of Mexico, and fully equal to cope with the Spaniards; that (.tn. Lallen.and is chief in command, and has under him many veteran French officers ; that they spend much time in the open air practising the use of arms; and that they aie well organised inured to fatigue, and keep up a very exact discipline. It this information is correct, (and we have no reason to doubt it,) VIezico is destined, at no distant day, 10 assume an imposing attitude and become a formidable empire, and this, j cry probable, under the direction of some military aspirant who, with the sinews of war at command, might laugh to scorn the pow crs of combined Europe. W. C Gaz. TO OLD SOLDIERS. Washington city, Sept. i5. We are authorised to state, for the information of those interested, that the number of applicant for pensions under the act of the last session, has been so great, that it has not been possible v ith every exertion, to act upon them so fast as they came in. In addition to which, some delay has taken place in order to supply from the records of the several states, the documents in relation to reolutionary sen ices, which w ere destroyed when the War-Office w as burnt in igoi ; w hich cause of delay is now almost wholly removed. The applications for pensions are taken up in the order of time in which they were received, and every effort will be made to render the delay as short as possible. When clcims to pensions are admitted, the Certificate! w ill be transmitted to the persons by whom the claimants' papers were sent to the War Department When rejected, they w ill be returned in the same manner, with the reasons stated for rejection. Mere letters of general enquiry as to the state of particular applications.vrc are informed, cannot be answc red, as it w ould consume much of tho time that ought to be engaged in the investigation ot claims.
