we have been comp iled to publish r. STB PR i nsom's communication to Major Whitlock, in an Extra sheet, THE PATRIOTS AT AMFLIA. The only news since our last, from Amelia, via Savannah is to the i3th inst. l ort Nicholai, on St John's river had surrendered. The royalists after destroying all the mi.itary stores, and spiking their guns, made their escape by water. Augustine is said to be the next object of attack, which was closely blockaded by the Patriot squadron under admiral Brion. Col. Coppinger, its royal corarmmder, is represented as possesi :g military ability and personal courage, in an eminent degree : he received his education in Philadelphia, and is considered Z linn adherent to his royai master's cause : if so, st. August ine garrisoned by 0OO men, cannot be easily token by an inferior fivce ; but the cause, added to the military renown of the patriot leader gen. Mac Gregor, is -a tower of stregth" to the armv he commands. The inhabitants of Amelia have generally returned to their homes and feel perfectly satisfied w ith the new order of flairs ; private property has been rigidly respected ; and, in every instance it is said, runaway slaves have been restored to their masters.
