AN ACT Authorising the Secretary of the Treasury to pay to the state of Georgia fifteen pet cent upon the quota of Direct l ax, for the year 1816, assumed and paid by the state. BE it enacted by the Senmte and hciie if Representative of the United X'a'cs of America in Ccr tfress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury shall be authorised to pay to the order of the Gov emof of Georgia, for the use of that state, the sum of 14 000,180 dollars and 47 cents, being an abatement of fifteen per cent, on the quota of direct tax, payable by that state for the year 1316 which quoa was paid but notice of an uitenton to assume it not given, in time to entitle the said state to the deduction of 15 per cent. Under the act of January, 1815 laying a direct tax upon the I nited States. S. C. 2. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives oj the United Statea of America in Congress assembt d, That the pi opcr accounting officers ( fthe treasuiy department he and they are hereby authorized and directed to audit and settle the clam of Alexander Holmes and Benjamin Hough, for expenses inclin ed in endeavoring to survey military bounty lands m the Michigan territory, and to survey into section;, the land on each side of the road, laid out from the foot of the Rapids of tne iami of tiie lake to the western boundary line of the Connect ut Western Reserve, and from which survey they were prevented bv Indian hostility , and that they allow them, in the settlement of the same, a reasonable compensation for such ixpencesas were necessary incurred See 2 And be it further enacted That i he amount thereof, when so ascertained, shall he paid to the said Alexander Holmes and Benjamin Hough respectively, out of any moncv in the treasury, not otherwise approp iated. AN ACT Further to rgulate the territories of the United t: tes and their electing Dc-ie-gates to Congress. BE it enacted by the Senate and Ho use of Representatives of the Unit d States of America in Congress assembled, i,at in e very territory of the United States, in which a temporary government has been, or hereafter shall be established, and which by virtue of the ordinance of Congress of the 13th of July 1787, or of any subsequent act of Congress, passed or to be passed now hath or herafter shall have the right ro send in Delegate to Congress, such Delegate shall be elected every 2d year for the same term of 2 years, for which members of the House of Representatives of the U States are elected ; and in that House eac' of the said delegates shall have a sea: vith a right of debating but not of voting Sec 2 And be it further enact' d That on the 1st Monday of August next, the citizens of tt.e territory of Mi; souri, qualified according to the act, ei titled "An act providing for the government of t he Territory of Missouri," w all elect a delegate to Congress : And ir shall he the duty of the General assembly of the said territory to make provision by law for the arnica! or bienal meeti- gsof the s ud general assembly, as the interests of the said territory may in their opinion require ; and such annual or bienal meeting shall be on the 1st Monday of ' ecember, unless they shah by law appoint a different day. And so much of any law or laws as are inconsistent with thfl provisions of tins act, shall be and the same are hereby repealed.
