DEFERED ARTICLES. A writer in the Nat. Intelligencer Strongly recommends an amendment to the Constitution, providing that theexpresidents be entitled to a seat for life, in the Senate, with a salary correspond irg to the dignity of the high office they have 'filled. He also BUggests the propriety of encreasin the Presidential salary, so as to make it correspond with the
difference of the value of money.

Bv an act of Congress passed March 3, the residue of the Mississippi territory (now a state has been cut off) is established as a territorial government, ly the name of Alhama. and the town of St. Stephens declared the metro polis until altered by the territorial letrislature. The hounds of the new territory are as follows, viz. Begining at a point where the 31st degree of north latitude intersects the Perdido river ; thence east to the western boundary line of the state of Georgia; thence along said line to the southern boundary line of the state of Tennessee ; thence along said boundary line to the Tennessee river ; thence up the sam t to the mouth of Bear creeek, thence by a direct line to the north west corner of Washington coun ty : thence due south to the Gulf of Mexico ; thence eastwardly including all the islands within 6 leagues of the shore to the Perdi do river, and thence up the same to the begining. WASHINGTON, April 19. A shocking accident occurred yesterday at Bladensburg between 10 and 11 o'clock ; an explosion in the powder mill belonging to Mr. Bussard in Georgetown The ignition of the powder took place in the pound ing mill, as we understand, probacy from the friction. Two men passed in a moment from time to eternity, and two others were dreadfully mangled or wounded the one a white man with a family, the other a man of color. The injury to the works, it is understood cannot be repaired at a less expense than MICH) dollars. The explosion it is believed, occasioned no injury beyond the limit of the works. Evansville is situated on the northern bank of the Ohio river, in the state of Indiana, at the most northwardly bend of the Ohio river about 12 miies above the Red Banks, 28 from Princeton, 52 from Vincennes, and 3 0 from Harmony. This town is laid out on a liberal and convenient plan, with a handsome public square about 20 rods from the river, Water Street, on the bank of the river is laid out 100 feet w ide, Main Cross street passing the public square, is 76 feet wide, all other streets are 60 feet wide throughout, with an alley of 12. feet through the centre of each square or
block and at the rear of each iot. The situation of this town is acknowledged by all travellers to be the most M beautiful of any on the Ohio from Pitts -
uurgn to me Ansissippi ; n ci: nanny possesses more natuial and local advantages than any other on the northern bank of the Ohio. The bank at this place, and for a considerable distance above and below the town is high, level, and dry. and from lu to 20 feet above high watermark, with a commanding St beautiful view of the river for several miies each way ; it is the established and only convenient landing, and place of deposit for all manner of Merchandize and Groceries imported to the western part of the state, so much so, that merchants from Vincennes. and other parts of the western part of the state, find it their advantage to land their merchandize at this place, and transport them in w aggons to the place of destination, at almost all seasons of the year, in preference to the circuitous, difficult &c sometimes impassable rout of the Wabash ; this place also is, and ever will be the most suitable & convenient place of deposit for the produce of the greater part of Warrick Gibson, and part of Posey counties ; it is in fact, to the western part of the state of Indiana, what Limestone is to Kentucky the principal place of deposit. It is situated immediately above the mouth of big Pigeon creek which affords one of the best harbors on the Ohio river. On this stream there are several valuable millseats in the vicinity of Evansville, at one of which and within three miles of the town, there is an excellent gvist and saw mill, now in complete operation. The Country hack from the river, is generally high and dry of a good soil, well adapted to the culture of Corn, Hemp, Wheat and Tobacco, particularly the two latter, with plenty of never failing springs of excellent water ; the country in the vicinity of Evansville. has a very healthy appearance, and ten years experience has proven it to be one of the most healthy neighborhoods on. or near the Ohio river, and inferior to none in point of health in the western parts of Kentucky or state of Indiana ; merchants mechanics and men of entei prize and industry will do well to come and judge for themselves.
