When I announ ed mys If at the solicitation of many of my mends as a candidate to represent you in Congress, 1 was urged by principle, not personal views or individual benefit , I was fit : from ail local prejudice or partiality ; ami acting on the same principle I now declare, At the period announced myself to von. it was again my own wish, 1 even doubted success, there being only 24 days from the day came forward, until theday of choice. Vet being clearly and decidedly of the opinion that erery man under our government, should more or less, yield to the wish and opinion of friends and fellow citizens ; on such an important occassion I yielded my wish and belief, to the desire and opinion of manj aged, patriotic and wortly citizens. Citizens Time weuM admit of vbiting but few of the coun

It is not owing to any understanding or agreement between 71 r.
