Friend Evans has forgot himself so far atleast as his charge of partiality can apply to me. He. and all my readers must well know I am as strictly impartial as the nature of mv duties will permit, and T am at time almost tempted to fear that I am too partial to those who are not Mr. J e n n i n o-s' s blind ad m i re r s f or with me his fortress has never beeh inaccessible. We arc authorised to announce Samuel Par. as a candidate for Coronor of Knox county. DIED On Friday the 26th inst. in this place, George fV. L. Jones, merchant, of Princeton, he has left a rising family, and nnmerous friends to mourn his loss. g mm FROM SOUTH AMERICA.
By recent advices from South America, communicated by a friend on whom we can rely, we understand that General Bolivar landed on the coast of the pro vince of Cumana on the 4th of May, at the head of 3000 men, without any opposition. Numerous guerilla parties, sprea I through the interior of Venezula, oiler to him the greatest resources. Every thins; is now in motion in that country, with the best prospects of speedy success to the patriots. Bolivar in passins: by Margarita, sent to his friends ammunition enough to ta'ce by storm the castle of Pampatar which is the only place held by the royalists in the Island. It is reported that Morillo's armv is in a most distressed situaHon in Mompoz, a town in the province of Carthagcna. It is the most unhealthy place in South America. A fever is said to rage among the troops, $c numbers die dailey. It is rumored that the republicans have defeated both the right and left wing, of the royal army, an I Morillo is expected to terminate his glorious career on the banks of the Magdalena. Some idea may he formed of the bloody measures a lopted by the agents of Ferdinand the ?th at Carthagena, by the execution of the following persons who were put to death there on the 24th of February last : Manuel del Castillo, a brigadier-general ; Martin Amador, brother to the late governor ot Carthagena; P. Gh Ribon, col. of the republican army, commanding at Mompoz ; J. M. Portocarrero, a gentleman of one of the m st respectable families of Santa Fee de Bogota, nephew to the marquis of St. George ; S. Stuart, an Englishman of very good education, and lieutenantcolonel . Garcia Toledo, A vos, Granados, and Augulano, of the most respectable families, employed in various departments of the government ; Manuel Augiano. a briiradier-flneneral of engilieers, father of a numerous fami- ( IVasliington City Gaz.)
THE ALGE RISES. Our late treaty with the DeV of Algiers appears not to be much relished by the Barbarian prince. He is already .seeking for pretexts to elude its force, and to bring back to his coffers a portion of that tribute which the IT. States formerly paid to him, and which he lost by his own treacherous follv in declaring war at a momcnt when this country was embarrassed by a contest with Great Britain. Considering the nature of the Algerine government, and that the Dey s exchequer has been heretofore in a great degree supplied by contributions of money from foreign powers we have aiwavs regarded the late treaty of peace with Algiers as one that would not be observed with good faith by that regenev. But we viewed it nevertheless a a treaty useful to America, because it would afford the opportunity of keeping up a small naval force, which would serve as a school for our officers and seamen. Tribute is now out of the question ; and where there is no tribute there mi st be a naval squadron. The character of the U. States has been finally determined towards naval power, by both federal and republican administrations, and whatsoever tends to promote and perfect the feature of our character be a disadvantage to the nation. The government would be wrong, we think to yield a single cent to the Algerines either in the shape of present or otherwise. Ibid. Various Foreign Intelligence. Paris letters to the 18, Mav. a Twenty-one individuals have been seized at Paris recently. & delivered over to he tried for conspiracy. M. Beirver. jun. stands accused of having professed dangerous doctrines in the defence of general Gambronne ; doctrines Which directly attack the rights of legitimacy. There is a report that the monarchs of Austria, Russia, and Prussia, are to have an interview during the summer at Top! it z. The papers from Brussels to the 1,5th May, state various par ticulars respecting the late insurrection : if these are to be credited, it would appear that the plan was very general. & that many parts of Prance were to rise at the same time. The duke of Wellington is employed in taking precautions in consequence of these events. The people of Paris are as eager for the news from the departments as they were for bulletins from the army: the greatest inquietude prevails in the ministerial departments : much is expected from the national guard ; but in every legion only particular citizens, who it is believed, maybe depended upon are entrusted with ammunition. At Yineennes, during the nights, libels against the government are slipped under the house doors. n THE HAinJOMC bream Grist, and Fulling MM, or Wool Carding Machine.
