Grand total of Receipts Dollars 3( 5 12 5 Balance remaining unpaid to be hereafter fettled 2 58 THE afTociation fubmit the above Hatement of their accounts to tha publick, with their mofl fiocrre thanks to the patrons who have uphrld them. The h-nery and materials pur. bated for the ufe of the affociation, are in the keeping of mr, G. W. Johntton, and mr. Smut, for the ufe and fervice of any future tffbeiatton ot young men who will engage to protVcute our original utfign and thus the greafft expenditures of a future aUociattun air clearly providrd. Arrangemfnts have alio been made to procure a tollr&ion of Comedies and Farces, from whirh future ftledtions my be made, and thus remove an inconvenience which the prtfmt afTociation have felt and had to contend againft. That the affociation laboring with fo many impediments, have done fo much, they rejoice they did. i' is true, expect torfFed more. but for their failure they are not to bl -me; their v h v tre niade public before they commenced and if any of their proceedings caufed rJlfTatitfa&ion, it TOUfl have been becaufe the dilTatisfied were ignorant of tham they are now open to the fcrutiny of all, and 'tis hoped all will in due time, acknowledge the next alTociation deferving of more fupport. In afTociation are fenfible public liberality h?s been extended towards them hut one inuance to the contrary has prefented itfelf, and that occurred lately. The afTociation have not been able to difcover the author with the prerifion which might juftify publicity though the friendship of fome, and the ingenuity of others, have indicated a lady, who nvght, it is believed with a little trouble be better informed. 1 'hr afTociation do not believe the judgment of many could be dimmed f y prejudice, or feduced by falfehood, and they will not contemplate a charge of obscenity, but with a glance of incredulity. A large proportion of our femalrt have difcernment to perceive what is right, and refolution topurfue the path but the conduct of either man or woman is their beft eulogy, and if in the opinion of thofe who have witnefh d our plays, fuch a charge, or any other that can pfFedt the character of the concerned be infl, let meiited contempt and infamy reft on us, or on those who are gudtyr,f making the charge. Our I.,ft play was, happily for us, attended by a numerous circle of ladies w hole minds ar liberally ornamented with tretfurei which r.ifdain fuch auxiliaries as that rrport to tin m, wtre it neceffary, we might appeal. 'Tis thought ui:nc criT.uy to fay more, lefs might not have fatisfied. The afTociation now bid god bye to aclinc and to the l.icies they will declare, they envy not, nor will they ever imitate, the difpofitiofi tint cculd know their virtues and not refpel it, or view their lovelinefs Md not admire it.
