Mr Stout sir Having feen a picre in your laft paper over the (ignature pi Z, the objel of which no doubt was a good one as to my own part I agree with that writer, being well fatlsfied in my own mind that rtiariy advantages would be derived horn it, not only to thole immediately enaged in it, but to the community at large it is not nece flaxy to Hate my reafons but would requeit all thofe who w ifh to encourage the improvement o the mind, and that would be willing to encourage the thing by ta king parts to meet at mr. Nashville, Aug. 23. CREEK I UK A 1Y. It is with pleafiire we learn that the Creek war, has been terminated by a treaty. It ib underftood a treaty was figned on the yth inft. bv Gen lackfon and the principal Chiefs of the tribe by which we gain an accell'ion of territory of about twenty-tw o millions of acres including the whole of the Alaba
ma & the valuable part of the Coofa, Cahawba & the black warrior The line begins on the Coosa at a point on the eaftern bank of the river, where the fouth boundery of the Cherokee nations crofles the fame ; running from thence down the eaft bank of the Coofa to one mile above the mouth of Ceder Creek at Fort Williams, thence eaft 2 miles: thence fouth two miles ; thence weft two miles to the eaftern bank of faid Coofa, thence down the eaftern bank thereof according to thr va rious meanders to a point oppofite the upper end of the great falls called by the natives Woetumka. Thence eaft on a true meridian line to a point due nnnh of the Oakfufkee, thence fouth by a line running to the mouth of Oakfufkee on the fouth fide of the Tallapooofa river, thence up the faid Oakfufkee according to its various meanders to a point where a direct courfe will cr if the fame, at the di dance of ten miles from the month thereof, thence a direct line to the mouth of the Summochicho creek, which empties into the Chatahoochie river on the eaft fide thereof, below the Kufaul i town, thence eaft by a true meridian line to a point which fhall interfecl the line now dividing the lands claimed bj the Creek nation from thofe claimed and owned by the ftate of Georgia A mile fq is referved around the rtfidence of any friendly Indian w ho choofesto live on the land, otherwife it belongs to the United States, The remainder of the Creek lands are guaranteed to them, and the tribe to receive provifions at the United States' garrifon until their crops are fit for life all property taken from the United States citizens to be returned, and ever hoftile Indian who enters the Territory of the tribe now guaranteed to be delivered up a prifoner to the United States. The above provifions w e understand embrace the principal condions ofthetrea tv of capitulation. This acquitition of territory cuts oft oil dire 61 communication between Spum Hi agents . the Creek tribe, and enables our government to connect the white fettlements of Georgia and the Miffiffippi territorv. It contains fome very valuable land, efpecially that lying on Cahawba. and will no doubt be fold to a confiderable advantage as foon as the government authorifes it,
We learn that gen. lackfon the fecond day after the treaty was fig
ned, ftarted towards Mobile."
Something decilive from the fouth may be expected in a fhort time. Shortly after the general arrived at fort lackfon to hold the treaty, he pifpatched captain Gordon of the fpies to Penfacola, to know the views of the Spanilh governor in permitting the Britifh to laud on Appalachicoia, and by protecting the hoftile Indians, c. The governor replied in fix weeks he would give him an anfwer. Gen. Jackfon, on receiving this rcpiy, is faid to have obferved, that in lefs time he would be to lie him.
From the Boston CeHtinet of August 18. RUMORS OF TKACi:. Rumors of an approaching peace betuecntheU States and Eng. land, as the refult of the negociuiions in Ghent, reach us from various quarters, and from intelligent fources. It is ftated, and we believe authentically, that the political functionaries in the Britifh colonies, are of opinion that an immediate peace will grow out of thofe negociations ; and that this opinion is founded on the lateft advices from England. Such are the rumors which time only can invalidate or confirm.
