THE WESTERN SUN. VINCENNES. July 9, 1814. We are authorifed to announce John M Donald as a candidate for the legifiative council at the approaching ekelion. A Voter, has been received and fhull have have a place in our next weeks paper. Nashville, jfuneZB A mr. Overton, of Maury county, who has been detained for some time contrary to his inclination on board the Britiih fleet, has returned home, having been landed from the veflel he was detained in at Peniacola. He Hates, that there were at Ptnfacola when he left there about 1000 Indians, encamped on the bay oppofite the town. That they were well armed and had received their arms from the Britifh, that about 17,000 (land of arms had been brought there by the Britilh, and 300 Britilh ibidiers had landed. From the known refpeclability of mr. Overton, and his immediate knowledge of what he dates, we are warranted in believing his Itatement to be correcl. ilr. Overton (lates that the inhabitants on the Tomhigbee were under ferious apprehenfions of an immediate attack, and that the above information had been Pent to the prefident of the U. States, by the way of Georgia. Fears are entertained that the arms above mentioned are for arming the Indians, and the blacks of the fouthern feclion o the union ; conjectures arc afloat that Florida is part of the indemnification that England exacs for her sacrifices in blood and treafure in Spain, and that very ferious apprehenfions may be felt for the fafety of Orleans. Should the following information prove true, nothing fhort of exterminating the hoftile Indians will fatisfy us. It is thought by fome, that arms have not been given to the Red Clubs as Rated, but to the Seminolies, who have hitherto been neutral, for the purpofe of driving the patriots out ot Eaft Florida. Be it as it may, we fhouid be on our guard. Spain is at be it but a doubtful friend, and no one knows how ibon the may be an open enemy.
