The laft nail furmfhed nothing new front our armies, but confirm the account pubhfhed in our A of the capture of ic. col. Bcerftlcr, with a detachment of upwards of 500 men the official account oi that affair will be found below. From liurope we have nothing of moment, but great variety of report from the French and allied armies, ot victories and defeats, but of the moft vague and contradi&ory caft however, from every account we have been able to collect, wc are induced to believe nothing had tranfpired of any momeijt at the date of the lull accounts. Dear borne, to the fecretary at war, dated, HEAD QUARTERS, Fort George, Juneft5tb 1813. sir I have the mortification of infor ming you of an unfortunate &. unaccountable event which occurred yefterday. On the 23d at evening, It. col. Bcerftler, v ith 70 men infantry, artillery, cavalry and riflemen, in due proportion, was ordered to march by the way of Quecnflovvn, to a place called the Beaver Dams, on the high ground about 8 or 9 miles h em Queenftown, to attack and difperfe a body of tiie enemy, collected there for tiie purpofe of procuring provifn ns & harraflmg thofe inhabitants o arc conlidered friendly to 'he U. States. 'J heir force was, from the moft direct information, compoied of one company of the lG4th regt above so Drong : from 150 to 200 militia, and (rem SO to 60 Indians. At 8 o'clock yefterday morning, when w ithin about 2 miles of the Beaver Dams, our detachment was attacked from an ambufcade ; but soon drove the enemy iome diftance into the woods and then retired to a clear field, and lent an expref for a reinforcement, laying he would maintain his portion until reinforced ; a reinforcement of sco men marched immediately, under the command ot col.
