We have hut to long lingered unuer Uie outrages upon our rihtb, and the infulis upon dui Hog, committed by ihr B:iti(h government with a tond In pr, that ptti dice, torhehiance, irilionitrance and lieo tiation wuulJ at quire reparation lor the p.ill, and le r unty againit tuture injuries. rhat uclutivc hope is now bainOud. Out plicncc h.is leeu tkrn ty ourrnrmiestor i owardice, ami the miniftiy of Great Bri lain have f omed a contemptuous opinion of our firmnefs. Forbearance and remon Itrance h ive produced only repetition of infulss and n juries. The laft accounts from Kngland leave us nothing to hope or expedt from that nation, but what we can extort hy thofe phyfic I m-ans of forcible refiflar.ee Ur fence and offence, winch nature has given us. The embargo is confidered at a prelude to opei hoftilitirs rmt as a meafure which is to pinch Great Britain until Ihe comphrs with our jnft demands. Havingptaken fuch a view of our relations and their ultimate confequences, it was due to the commercial men, and to the nation, that the proprrty fent on the ocean and abroad, in time of peace fliould not be h .ft ly fubj'dted to the accumulated dangers confrq irnt to a flare of war. To detain our framen and proprrty at home until our citiseni could he appritrd fulh of the h-sarJi which they wonlJ have to encounrrr abroad uid-r the new attitude tl is g vrnnient lutcuds to tlTuOie to draw home that
which is alreidy abroad, thereby adding to our ftock of individual wealth snd Conlequently to our national refources and to ive time tor in.reafmg and maturing our means of cfFcidive anddefcnfive operationi were the primary inducements to this embargo. Ninety dsys therefore, were preferred to fixty, as affording the better opportunities for bringing home the wealth ,f our citizens, and giving greater llrength energy to our military preparations. Tins meatare may be followed perhaps hy a temporary fufpenfion of the non-importation ad, for the purpofe of permitting American citizens to withdraw their funda from Great Britain. It is moft devoutly to be wiihed that all pofiible zeal (hall be excited (during thefc 90 days cfpecially) to give the ntmofl alaciity to the enlillments of rrgulars and volunteers. The people fliould know the courfe which muft be purfued by the government of their own c ho.ee -tgainfl a government which entrrtaii s deadly hatred to ours, becaufe it dared to he free .the people ought to be called upon to rife in the maj-fty of their strength and rally around the ftandard of their govern ment. ' CHII.LICOI HE, April II. The prrfident of the United States hat called on the governor of this ftate, for 1200 meu to mrcli immediately for Detroit. The governor has accordingly iffued his orders to the command ntB of divifions w ho are each to fui nifh 500 men, ro br divided into five companies. A draft will be immediately made on the militia, unlefs a fuficiei t number fliould volunteer their fervices. We ui dei 0 and tbat fevrral gentle m-n in this county are at prefent engaged in railing volunteer companies.
