General Orders for the Militia THE murders and depredations which Invc lately been committed by the Indians in the Illinois territory, and the general afpecl of Indian aiftirs throughout our north vvrftcrn frontier, makes it impcrioully needfarv that meafures thould be immediately t3krn to put the miliiia of the territory on the mnft rcfpecVible footing. With this object, the fcvcral Colonels and Commandants of corps are particularly charged. Thry are to fee that their men are all pro perly cLlTed, armed and equipped, as the las uirc& ; and that the captains enrol all the men that are fubjett to militia duty. The regiments of Infantry are in future to be defignated by the following numbers, viz. 1 he regiment in Kncx county, com. niand-d by Lieutenant Colonel Commandant, Jordan, will be called the 1ft Indiana

part pay of which note, over and above the purchafc money for the

faid patent right (which was one thoufand dollars) the faid Kelfey and Smith, advanced the faid VV. Reclor, five hundred dollars, and gave their obligations for five hundred more, when the whole of the faid note fhouid be collected : and whereas, by advices from the city of Philadelphia, lately received in this town, we have been informed that the faid Wharton Reclor, and the faid John A. Shaefer, had entered into a combination, by an interchange of notes or obligations to defraud the good people of the United States, the faid Shaefer undertaking to negociate the faid RetStor's notes to the eaftward, &. the faid Reclor undertaking to negociate the find Shaefer's notes in the weftern country and whereas, it appears from the fame advices, that the faid John A. Shaefer, had been confined in the (late prifon, in the city of New York, for felony, before the negotiation between him and the faid Wharton Re&or, and it further appears from the fame advices, that fince the negociation between the faid Shaefir and the faid Reclor, the

faid John A. Shaefer, had abfeonded from the city of Philadelphia, after having negociated the find Re6or's notes and whereas, one of the faid Shaefer's notes, given as aforefaid to the faid Reclor, has been forwarded to the city of Philadelphia, where they were con

tracted for acceptance, and been protefied for non-acceptance, the faid Shaefer not being to be found This is therefore to forewarn all perfons from receiving the faid patent right, as aforefaid, from the laid Reclor, as we are determined to take all legal fleps to fet aftdc the faid contract.
