The great war chief of the Shnwanoes, ck brother to the Prophet arrived at this place on Simday laft, accompanied by a large number of chiefs and young warriors, for the purpofe of holding a council with the Governor, they have had two conferences, but nothing material has as yet tranfpir-ed.

Extract of a letter from a gentleman at St. Louis, to his friend in this place, dated, Auguft 3d, 1810. ik On my return from the garrifon up the Midonri, I flaid at captain Coles, who had ju(t returned from the purfuit of fome Indians that had Rolen horfes from the fettleincnt they came in view of the Indians in a prairie, and purfued on until niht, and encamped, made fire, Tec. in the wood land, not apprehending any danger from the Indians, lay dou n to flecp fometime after midnight, they were fired on by the Indians, and four men killed."
