Thus has terminated one of the mod diabolical plans ever formed to take away the life of an honelt public officer, in order to fcreen from his decifion an immenfe train of flfe and perjured claims. On Tuefday I a ft before the General court at this place, came on the long expected trial of col. Michael Jones (one of the Commlflioners for deciding ori lands claims within this diftricl) as acceffary before the fad, to the murder of Rrcc Jooes, a young roan who fell about righteen months fince in an unfortunate affray with dodtor James Iun!ap. A great concourfe of people was on this orcafion aflmbled from this territory and upper Louisiana, St the public mind feemed wound opto the higheft pitch of indignation, as it was notorious that col. Jones had tio manner ol connection with the difpute between Dr. Dunlap and young Jones as his character as a quiet peaceable citizen was univerfally known, and as it was equally well known that land claims to a vaft amount, were remaining to be decided on by the commiflioners, which had been laid in by the very prrfons who had appeared as .witnefies ngainft him, which had been fupported by follV and corrupt teftimony ; the
