POETICAL ASYLUM, FOR THE WESTERN SUN. FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE For the New Tear 1810. BLEST Friendlhip's like the (lately trees Which (hide the plain and hill, Sweet Love is like the tender leaves That grace the fount and rill. The one in bunds forever bright, Joins mankind unto man, The ether with decptive might But two unites in one. Love, folitary and forlorn, Ungen'rous and unkind, Oft phces in our fouls a thorn . That waftes our peace of mind. But Friendmip, godlike and fin cere, P rvidcs creation through, It's charms releafe me from all fear, It's joys are ever new. Chil l of the paffions, f-iithlcfs fofmf Of all our ills the caufe, Love rif-s in our brraft a ftorm Unknown to nature's laws. Offspring of reaf n, heaven's child, Divine celrttial ray, Pure Irt-n lfhip calms our pafllons wild, And turns our night to day. Year after yetr I've wifh'd to fee Thefe two unite their hands, For earth would he a hvav'n to me With Love in FritnduYip's bands. Wh-n I approach tht happy dome Where Love and Fnendlhip's near, Wit'i mv dear friends 1 feel at home, And welcome the New Year.
