Mr. Stout, AS I have not the lead doubt but the readers .of your paper, have heard, and fome of them believed that I have been guilty of mal conduct in' office, and as I have fa tight an inyeltigatiori, and have not obtained it. I then inftituted fuit againft capt. Davanport, who 1 heard fhould have faid a great many things, calculated to injure uiy character, and remove me from office, but meeting with hirn at Kafkafkia, he gave me the following certificate, which I vviHi to have inferted in your paper, and which will (how all that my moft inveterate enemy's can fay, for I believe that thofe who wifhed me removed from office depended moftly on captain Davenport for proof of my mal conduct. I am, Moft refpeafully Yours, ISAAC WHITE. Whereas an unfortunate difference I133 arifen between Ifrac White, and myfelf, and whereas, I may have been led to make fome hafty exnrelfions concerning him, calculated to injure his character, in confequence of believing that fome perfons had poifened his, mind to fuch a degree againft me, that he had not done me juflice in his office as agent of the United States at the Wabafli Saline ; and being fenlible that, every man is fubject to impofjrion, $nd that I might have been mifUken TTV fupo&iing that mr. White's prejudice againttifir was fo ftrong that he could not do me juflice I hereby certify and declare that i have never (as I at prefent recollect) faid any thing calculated to injure the character of mr. White, except his prejudice againft me, and his fending a waggon load of fah to RufielvilJe. But I have always faid, and till fay, that there is not a man within my knowledge, who is more to be depended upon. And I do confider him to be a man of ftridt honor and integrity, and I have always faid, and dill fy, that I believe there is not one man in a thoufand that could fill the place tint he now fills (viz. as agent at the Wabafh Saline, for the United States) better than he does. WHEREAS the circumftances of the Territory require that the Legiflature fhould be convened, I have thefore thought proper to appoint, and do by thefe prefents ; appoint Monday the fixteenth day of Oc tobcr next, for the meeting of the fame and the Members of the Legiflative Council and of the Houfe of Reprefentativesj and each and every of them, are required to give their attendance on that day, in the Town of Vincennes, accordingly.
