Lhriltophers, tor which place it is faid he cjeparted ; Aaron Burr who was alfo fummontd to appear, did not make his efcape, but pVefented himlclf according to the fummons: & was notified that he mutt depart from Eiigland ; he difclaimed all connexion or participation with any defign againft the Sphifli colonies, 8c claimed as a JJritilh fuhjeft, under magna charta, to remain unmolrjfted in the country to which he owed and avowed allegiance 1 Upon its Ijeiug urged that he was an Amrrican citizen, 8c that he had held a nation there which put his character as an Ameri can beyond queftion; he difclaimed the character of an American citizen, and aflerted that he was entitled to protection by his birth under the Britifh government, long before the Independence of America ; and that altho' the Britilh government might

connive at it? he maintained that the principles of Brhifh law and policy never admitted of expatriation ; and could not refufe to recognize the right of any fubjedl born within ihc real or its colonies. He was neJverthelefs advifed thathemufl depart the realm. He thereupon fignified that it was out of bis power, that he was drftitute of the funds requ fite to drfny the expences of his removal, or to difcharge the obligations he bad already incurred. Whether the funds were advanced or not ve have not learnt, but he was accompanied to one of the ports on the North lea, and fhipt for the continent. We heard feveral weeks ago that he hd taken his p ge' for the illat.d of St. Chriftophers and ys deftined for Trinidad. There werp fome other of the choice fpirits taken in company with Burr, and accompanied him in his trip acrofs the North fea. Unhappy outcafts, whom no country owns, alike disclaiming, and difclaimed by all ; from wljiofe acts, the want of honorable motives,1 withdraws not alone indulgence, but excites horror, and whofe misfortunes forbid all fympuhy, not even that of conipilfion or humiliating pity.
