volume of the Lamp. One dollar is now due from each fubferiber who commenced at the iirlt number, and two dollars from thole who were fo forgetful as not to pay their fir ft fix months fubferipuon. Punctuality is efientially Decenary to the exiltence of a news-paper. Any perlon wilbing now to difcontinue muft firft pay up arrearages and notify the editors and his commands fliall be immediately obeyed. NO. IV. From the D Oracle.
The printers of nine tenths of
the news-papers in the U. States, are obliged to dun from the beginning to the end of the year for payment ot their juft clues. We could fe!el hundreds of advertifements on the fame fubjefil from papers publilbcd throughout the union. The following from the Trejiton
r True American is a fpecimen of
the tenor of thefe fupplications ior jullice. NO. V. Patronage oj Printers !
Tho' k necellity is the mother
of invention' our invention is exhaujted in attempts to obtain the payment of arrearages from many
of our delinquent fubferibers. We
therefore avail ourfeives of the taV r t ill
lents ot otners in tae dilagreeable bufiuefs of dunning ; cc hope that thefe advertifements will be attended with better cflecls for us than our own have been. The fir It we copy is from the Abingdon Intelligencer printed by John G. Ultick. . " it is with pain we again dikticfs our delinquent fubferibers on the fubjecA of money. In three weeks time of ltock of paper will be out, and we hav e not one dollar to help in the purchafe of a new fupply. llfl ll't l 1 fill !lll- if.

compriTed for their perufal and comfort, in the lollowing chapter of Lamentations, the various plaintive, liipplieatory, and dogmatical duns of News-paper Editors, that have fallen into our hands for the lalt month. The hit verfe, by O'Conner, of No?feUr, is very much to the purpole. The truth there is well told. We earneilly beg that no cholerick man will in his fury after the finl reading, fling
the paper in the fire. We refpectfully recommend a reperufal which muft in all probability induce pcrfons in arrears to do us jultiee; NO. I. From the Commonwealth. TO SUBSCRIBERS. The prefent number completes the third year fince the eftablilhment of this paper. The Editor requefts all thole who are in arrears to fettle their accounts with as little delay as poflible. The expences of the eftablilhmcnt are great and unlefs more punctuality is obferved than there has been heretofore, we ihall be compelled to difcontinue the papers of a number of fubferibers, and endeavour to procure payment as the law directs. The funis due from individuals are fmall ; but to fhew that thefe fmall fums would be of great confequence to us, were they collected, we beg our patrons to keep in mind that there is now owing to this eflablifbment upwards of two thoufand dollars for fubferiptions alone and between four and five hundred dollars for advertifements and other printing. It isfo cullomary for printers to complain of bad pay, that their moil pre fling calls is feldom attended to, but we moll lincerely hope, that w ith our fubferibers, there will for once be an honorable exception to the general rule. Wiiilft we are fupporting the caufe o! the people with our labr and money, againft a hoft of foes, our patrons ought certainly once in a while, to think of fupporting us. NO. II.

Wo prefer reducing ( ur fubferiptiou lift one hall, to continuing fo deeply in arrears, arid we will make that eleclion, or at leaft take the rilk of it in the prefent feafon. While we particularly allude to thofc whofe bills have been prelented, we would alio give an intimation to fome others, who muft be confeious of being in debt without a perfonal call for payment. Our punctual and liberal patrons, it is hoped, will take no olTence at the prefent notice, but will impute it to the proper caufe, and continue their good and efficient patronage, by which we have been enabled to fupply delinquents with the paper. NO. VII. From the Vermont Weekly Wanderer, fhewing that the poor printers are glad to take any thine in payment : To the Patrons of the Wanderer. Anew year has commenced, Sc the printer isin want of the following articles, viz. Cafb, wheat, corn, rye, oats, green peas, flax, rags, tow cloth, tallow, butter, cheefe, falts of lye, beef, pork, hog's !ard, fait and cider. And he who cannot help the printer to a fmall quantity of fome one of the above mentioned articles muft be poor indeed. A late publication makes the number of inhabitants on this globe eight hundred and ninety fix millions. Of thefe two hundred and twenty fix millions are chiiftians, that is, people generally denominated chrillians ; ten millions of Jews ; two hundred 8c ten millions of Mahometans, and four hundred and fifty millions of Pagans. Of thofc prefefling the chrif. tian religion, there are fifty millions of proteftants, thirty millions of the Greek and arminian churches, and ninety millions of catholics, If we calculate with the ancients, that a generation Jails thirty years, in that fpacc eight hundred and ninety fix millions will b born and die ; eoufequently eighty one thoufand leven hundred an lixty mull be diopping into eternity every day ; thirty four thoufand and fevrn every hour, and about thirty lix every minute.
