FIRE! On Sunday night laft, about 10 o'clock, the new Factory belonging to mefirs. Sproule and Hanna, was difcovcred to be on fire; the alarm was foon fpread, and a large concourfe of the citizens of the place atTemhled, but no exertions they could make, werc fufficierit to retard the prog re fs of the flames. In a fiiort time it was completely confumed, except the brick walls, which were much damaged. Nothing was faved except a few yards of cotton bagging that was at the far end from where the fire began. An immenfe quantity of hemp and bagging was burnt the lofs is eftimated at near ten thoufand dollars ! After the alarm was over, c the adjoining houfes fecured from the fire," a negro fellow who worked in the fadlory was taken into cuftody ; and on Monday examined before a magiftrate ; circumliantial proof "was fufflciently ftrong, to authorifc his commitment for further trial at the fucceeding circuit court. He has fince confefied lie fet the factory on fire." From the lively intered the citizens of Frankfort feel in the patriotic exertions of the proprietors of the factory, we have no doubt, but this heavy lofs will be meafurably retrieved, by every mens being afforded to facilitate the re-bulding of it fhould thofc gentlemen think proper to do fo.
