nothcr objcfUon has been railed, that of my frequent abfence from the territory this will not be the cafe hereafter. Wm, PRINCK. VlN'cr.NNF.s, 25th April, 1809. Idodeieby certify, that in the begining of November, 1806, capt. WilJiani Prince came to my room, in company with George Wallace, jr. Sc communicated to inc whatever he knew relative to Burr's views in the vreltern country, which information he defiled me to communicate to governor Ilariifon, and it was by him lent on to the government of the United States in adifnatch to the prefdent, dated the 7th November, 1806. I have alfo reafon to believe that
this information reached the feat of government (boner than any other which developed the defigns of Burr, that from genl. Wilktnfon only excepted. And I am alfo perfuaded tint the communication made by capt. Prince, thro the governor, contained every thing which had come to the captain's knowledge, as he repeatedly declared that he would not have liftened to any propoli tion to go agiinft Mexico, if he had not been repeatedly aflured that the enterprise was fancYiotud labour government. But that he felt it to be his duty to communicate all he knew to the government, ob ferving that if it was Dn&ioned'by it, the
communication could do no harm ana , on the contrary the enterprife was anillegal one, ?n opportunity woulA be given to fupprefs it. Capt. Prince at that time was under the impreiuon that the government fanlioned Burr's proceedings. But decla. red that Co frion as hi was convinced that they did not, lie would abandon the enterprife. -As foon as the preliJent's procla ination was received, he immediately declined going on. It is with much pleafure
