of light artillery, and one regiment of

the laid regiments ol infantry riflemen, and

artillery flu II confift of ten companies

each, and the regiment of light dragoons

of eight troops; and the field and aaffol

fleers of each regiment of one colonel, one

lieutenant colonel, one major, one adju

tant, one q.urter matter, one furgeon, one

furgeons mate, one fergeant mapr, one

ficims, and tir the regiment ot lignt dra

goons one riding matter ; each company of infantry and riflemen to con fill of one

per month, one ration per day, and a iuit of uniform clothing annually ; and all other officers, non-commiffioned officrs,

muficians, artificers and privates, authorised

by this al, fiiall receive the like pay, clothing, rations, forage and other emolu

ments as the officers, cadets non-commil Honed officers, muficians, artificers ,and privates of the prefent military ettablifti-

them to the foregoing allowance for forage

or its equivalent in money : And Provided

also i hat the whole or any part ol the regiment of light dragoons fhall be liable to ferve on foot as light infantry until by

order of the Prefident of the United States,

horfes and accoutrements fiiall be provided

to equip the whole or any part thereof as

mounted dragoons.

Sec. 5. And be it further enacted That the officers, muficians, artificers, and privates raifed purfuant to this act fiiall br

United States is hereby authorifed to ap

point, all or any of the officers, proper to

pe appointed under this act, which ap pointments lhall be fubmitted to the Se

Sec. 9. And be it further enacted That

every commiflioned and ftafF officer to bappqinted in virtue of this at fliall be l

the territories thertof.

AN ACT Making provifions for arming and equipping the whole body of the militia of the United States. RE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled That the annual fum of two hundred thoufand dollars be, and the fame hereby is appropriated for the purpofe of pioviding arms and equ;qments for the whole body of the militia of the United States either by purchafe or manufattuie by and on account ol the

U. States.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, Fhat the Prefident of the United States be

and he hereby is authorifed to purchafe fcircs for and erecl fuch additional arfenals and manufactories of arms as he may deem expedient under the limitations and rettric-

tions now provided by law : Provided els
