FOR TIIZ vrLSTr.x:s sux. To our right lelpedaole and well beloved prtrons the citizens of Knox county. The dedication of books and pamphlets, is become from cuftom, f necefTary a part of the work, tint a book) or a pamphlet without it, appears like a nnn with his head cut off by the fuulders; without this, one riny fcruUnife the carcafe, but the brains and the clfencc, remain with the head ju ft to with our pamphlet of 16 pges in length, on which we fprnt much time and pains in compiling, and which we beg leave to recommend toyo-i as a work of no contemptible celebrity, for it has circulated already from the prituirtg-ofme, to the po(lcfiice. Yes, fellow citizens, what talents we poffefs, wtre drawn forth to flicw to you, that it ix ufrlefs and idle to blame us for electing Davis Floyd as clerk to the houfe of repr fentatives for we are your political guardians, therefore know heft what ought to be done for your good We have called our. fdves your guardians in our pamphlet, fome copies of which we have fent to the lead
ing men atnongft you, to make fair weather
' for our next election, and we mean to fend a few copies to the Mufcum, as a fpccimcn of the perfection to which we Inve brought
the Englilh language and a fnend of ours
Jm advifed us to lend a few copies to the
Tower in London, to fliew the inhabitants
of that place, that notwithstanding we live
- in the forefts of America, the purity and foul of feience and of liberty, have taken ifp their abode here .We fay we have called ourfelves your guardians in our pamphlet,
and we think we are-right in fo doing, for
, .when a m is elected a reprefentative of the people, he is then the people's guardian, and the people aflame the charactcrof miHors, and have no right to think for them-
frlves befides, we fcorn in the fullnefs of
cur power and popularity, to echo the voice of every idle dirty fellow, who might have voted for us ; and further, we clont care whether the political veflcl of the Territory and of the United States, fink or fwim, if v. can get fffly landed in fome profitable ctiice, worth one thoufand or twelve hun
dred dollars a year, fuch as a judglhip, Sec. Sec. and to which profitable birth your kind patronage, is only the flepping ftone. Some foul mouthed fellows have endeavoured to throw dirt on the brighteft part of our character and conduct as your reprefentatives anl precious guardians, vc allude to the rabble of thirty five, who were prefent and voted for the refqlutions mentioned in our pamphlet, poor filthy creatures who had the irrtpudence to cenfure, or even to murmer at the conduct of their reprefentatives, therefore their fuperiors in point of talents, integrity, and refpectability, for your choice of us as your reprefentatives has therefore
bellowed upon us the collected wifdom of
thecouunty ; this is proved in this way, be
fjrc our election, the? governor, and the reft
of the big people in the county were cold
and dill ant, looking upon us as rather con
tetnptible, but lince we hare beco;ne wife,
prudrnt and virtuous", by being clewed your
reprefentatives and guucians, th
moI humble fjrvants : wc are now admit
ted into the cabinet, and confuited on all
g.eat Territorial qut ftions - is it not then
the height of impudence and vanity to cen
fure us for unlocking the door ot cur wif
dom, whenever we think your pood
requres it? We hue given you fpecimens of our unbound d talents (to fay i o-
thing of the iplendor of our l-gifl uivr wif dom, exhibited at the 141 fefTuin of the af
frmbly, which is placed upon record as a lafting monum.n; of our gredtuef 1ft. In cur circular lettrr to you, where we painted
in glowing colours the bright tide of curie pillative conduct. 2d. In our defence of
ur conduct in electing Divis Floyd a
clerk ; v.'here we defended Floyd, ami Burrs fchrme of treafon, with unriv-led addrefs ; Anil thirdly, in our pampltt, to which this dedication ought to have been prefixed, we have fcirntiftcally, and metapl.y tically icrubbed and fcoiued Floyd's cor.dufi as ennneeted with Hurr, in 1: 13 nr.. d fiheme of treafon, at the exprnfe of the oath, character and integrity of a rcfprctable jury of Clark county, and us to Burr, finding our talents would be walled in defending him any longer, we have in the htight of our indignation and wrath, confined him, totthrr with the Scotch, the Knglifli. the lrifli, and the rabble who voted for the icfolutions to thr Devil. In the hurry cf our bufinefs, and the profundity c( our cogitations we had forgotten to writ? a dedication to cur pr.tnphlct, aiul indeed I believe wc never Huuld havcthof
of it, if a friend of ours had not told us onefperfon defirous of becoming a fubfciiber.j
n7 ,., a idrtaiuc way - inai ne dad leen can nave tne opportunity ot mlpecting them our pamplct which had made its appearance by application to the Librarian, Peter Jiiies in the world like a ftarved kitten on its Efqri The boaid of directors appointed by road to the tomb of oblivion for the want the company totranlatt its bufinefs in 01nf a preface, or a dedication, or a fomething dindry, judge it their duty to offer to the

into me minus ot the people, but what we were attached to Burr, and his party, be-
caufe we elefted Floyd our clerk, who was a few days before his election, tried and convicted of a high mildemeanor aeainft
me united states, and indicted for high
trealon; they lay you admitted a confpira
tor and a traitor in the threfliold of the
councils of the Territory, thev fav vou are
difaffecttd, rotten hearted, and not lhunch
triends of liberty ; they fay your pretended friendlliip is only Ikirt deep ; they fay, and
1 tmnK witn lome truth, that you are mere tools and hobby horfes for the bis: burrs' to
ride upon." Thefe obfervations of' our friend, led us almoft to believe, that the
play would not be worth the candle, with
out we ftrewed the path "over which our
pamplet was to travel with a flowery dedication or preface and as we forgot Jo write one, and affix it to our pamphlet, we therefore after mature deliberation in, our auguft cabinet fgreat and wife men, think it will anfwer every purpofe, to infert this our dedication in the Weftein Sun, where all thofe to whomwe have fent pamphlets mayperufeit; the pamphlet is concluded with the irrefiftable certificate of one Jonathan Jennings, the clerk in the regiflers office at Vincennes, and who, not long finer was dubbed a county court lawyer, at the bar of the county court of Knox. It is the fame, Jennings who certified the proceedings of the board fTrnftees for the Vincennes Univerfity (without the confent o the knowledge of the bo:ird) for one of us as jn additional fiep in our ladder of fame and popularity. True he had not the re
cords of the houfe of reprefentatives in his
keeping, but he is fo famous for giving cer
tificates, that his veracity cannot be doubt
ed. With the true dignity of guardians
and reprefentatives, we fubmit this as the
pioneer to our pamphlet, which wc hope
will fecure our next election, therefore be
ing perfuaded that you, a our minor con-
(Vituents, put implicit confidence in our
wifdom and guardian care of ycur liberty,
we fhall ceafe writing any more co-partner fliip addrefiVs to you, except our mighty in
dignation is drawn forth by the infolence of
the Scotch the hnglifli, the Inlh and the
impudent and difconteuted rabble, who met
at the court houfe on the 4th of January,
and pafied the refolutions which we have
completely refuted in cur pamphlet ; this
dedication and our pamphlet, and our cir
cular letter, and cur defence of Burr, and
his ft heme of treafon, and feveral other va
luable efTays, to which we figned ficticinu

The public are, we believe, geuerclly ac
quainted that more than a year iince, an attempt was commenced by a number of the citizens of Vincennes and its vicinage, to "Oabliflia public circulating Library, in the
Borough of Vincennes, under the title t-f
the 'Vincennes Library. CanJidering all he circumftances of citHculty in which th; attempt was made, its fuccifs has equalled the rnofi fanguine expectations ot its patrons. Already ha? a company been organized under the name of The Vincennes Library Company,' which has obtained an act of the legifittue incorporating it ui.cier ihatname. As it is a mealu're of public utility, emanating from the moft bcnelent and patriotic motives, it is hoped it will meet with univerfal encouragement from every citizen in its neighborhood. Though its beginning be finall, as that of every cf:abliOiir.cnt, however ufcful, mufi necdTa-
