Mississip| ^It appears that latitude 33 uorth, Gemg the northern boundary of Kous ana, and the Gulf of Me*ic%, a tract of lar-d c»)mprising the sup:iCcii! area of 5,429,260 acrrs ii iiiundaled, when the river is at its greatest bight. 01 this tract, the quantify lying below the 31st degree of lafitude, is 3,183.580 acres, the remaining 2,-245,680 acres, lyins north of latitude 31, of which 398,000 acres lie in the state of Mississippi. Ot the lands which lie below lat- 31, about 500,000 acres have been reclaimed, by means of Jevecs, and embankments, at the expense of individuals. It is ^sffmateU that evermore of this land lying below the 31st degree of latitude, might be made to produce three thousand weight id' sugar or luxuriant crops of rice, indsgo, and cotton. Good sugar lands on the Mississippi are worth'$100 per acre and good rice land in greater value. It is believed that! this large area, embracing all below lat. 33, would support a population! of tvv® millions and a half. It is un-1 necessary to go furthar, into the fasts stated in this interestiog document, except to add that the whole expense ol draining this tract is estimated at

amounting to three millions of acres, and valued at upwards of thirty millions of dollars. IVol. Jtxir
