DEATH OF GOVERNOR CLINTON. With feeling® of deep conccrn. we have this day to announce t!i( death of Lfe Witt Clinton, Governor of New-York. This melancholy ev-4»nt took place on the evening uf Monday, February 11, and tin particulars are thus givt-n in thr Commercial Advertiser of Fiiday
He had discharged his official duties during the day, and written sev •ral letters in the course of the afternoon. About seven o'clock in the evening he was sitting in h^ study, conversing with two of his sons, when his head suddenly fell backwards, and he died almost instantly. lho interval between the attack and the arrival of Or. Iky, the physician, at which time life was extinct, was not more than ten minutes It ia supposed that he died from a sudden rupture of one of th* large blood vessels. The news immediately spicad through the city Albany, and an intense and painful sensation was cxcited, while the in habitants remained in suspense as
fo
the result of the calamity. An immense crowd occupied the house anw its precincts during the ev.-nn.^ Means of resuscitation were inet fectually employed to a late hour. A deep gloom prrvaded the city on the following morning. The Senate and House of Assembly adjourned after making arrangements for the order of the funera', which was to take place at 2 o'clock yrsferdiv.
The loss is not only to New-York it is a national loss. Yet lie is not lost for he has left a rich reputation behind him. The fame of our distinguished citizens constitutes thf most precious of the materials of our national renown anil the fame of De Witt Clinton has already Ira versed all climes it is known as far as science and letters have shed their lights on mankind it will accompany the march of time to the lateb: ages, becoming blighter as it pro ceeds, from the accumulated tiibutc^ with which posterity will adorn it It is a circumstance worthy of re mark, that Governor Clinton had accepted the task of pronouncing an eul gy on the deceased Emmett

the chosen subject of his eulogy. Other orato must now pronounce the eulogies on both The heat so lately occupied by Governor Clinton will for the present be filled by the Lieutenant Governor but the space which he has long occupied in the eye ot the nation, it will be long belore another citizen ol that State—prolific as uhe is iu greatness —can arise to till. "v*
Mr. Butler, one of the Representatives for Aibany, and a political opponent of tfcie deceased, in a very chaste and merited euiogium prefaced the resolutions to appoint a committed to conduct the funeial, and to pay other inaiks of respect, which he submitted to the Assembly, and which were unanimously adopted in both Houses. The Courts in the city of New-York adjourned im mediately on the mejatichoty being announced.
