I ' Parentage of John C* Premoat The lUchmond (Va.) Dispatch givea ■the following reminiscence of Fremont** 'parent*. If it i* correct, and wo have no reason to donbt its truth, it shows that a candidate fur the Presidency is thfe illegitimate son of a .woman who ran sway from her husband and took up with a French' teacher ': We have no disposition in the general | to meddle with the private history of peo j pie; but when that private history relates! to men presented for ills highest office in the gilt of the nation, and is brought to light by the press, it is nothing moire than proper that it t-hould he in the main coned.} It is due to truth and history. It would .be indeed strange if so young a man as Col. Fremont were elected President, that the simple record of hi* parentage and Inftli haa either been lost, entirely to or so inaccurately recorded as to-present hardly a single fact correctly. . To the good or bad fortune, as it may he of thiscity, it .{a connected with the hirtory of Ctd. Fremont’*; parentage,-— About the first of the. present ,century there resided in this city a revolutionary veteran.;who had served faithfully in the scar of the Revolution. This- s-eieran ! was Colonel .1 filin’ Pryor. He lived on (ho gronnd Avhii-h lien tatween the canal and the.riv'r, s we>t of the St- Petenibnfg railroad depot, oqd east of-the Armory , He !md there hi reminding- Ins house a garden, where refreshments could he pro niredi This was railed “Pryor’s garden." The old Colonel was a victim ot rhpumati>m; and lornmniinn to him wn> t diffitnlt. He moved with a shuffling , stop, 1 and look a long-time to go a very little way—indeed lie was a disabled, still * limbed old soldier, and hi*., physical for res had from exposure and hardship suf fered no little abatement. The veteran Col. Pryor took it into hii head that he needed a wife, and that In* ( would much letter off with one, than than to remain a rheumatic old bat-lie-lor, with.no ono to love, or rather no ■me to mend hi* linen and sew on hi* buttons. So he sought the band iu tiinr- , tinge of. a young girl—lybo she-was it was not material to know; nor does unr informant rememtar jwliether she was very Itenptiml nr not. .1 Suffice it to say, ►he yiehletl to the.suit of the veteran Mil- , dier, and became Mrs..Pryor-— mistress of , the gulden, and mistress of a long framed building, said to’ Imve resembled very much that dwelling so long occupied hy the late James Gray, and which whs pull- ■ eddown in rpake rooin for the fine dwell- ; iugs'rf Mr. John'Jlahln mid that erected | hv Mr. Gray.. It* main fcatmo wm a j -omewhnt spacious apartment in the centre, On either liaiidj wew long wings, of smaller dimension*, except their length, C than the. centre. AmIip. extremetbs of ■ these two wings stood two offices, apparently to promote the Itrtrrnontf of the general dc-ign. . . . ’ I We are the more particular in dererih- > mg the building, became, aa will Ik? set'll, I a lodgment was made in one of these offi- , cca by an enemy of the CoIoholV domestic happiness.. At this time, there lirerl in Tltchmond 1 a Frem-h teantare named-Fremont., who 1 t a light in the academy, of the celebrated p French scholar.-and gentleman, Girantin. * M- Fmnoiitis descril*erl as having been , a small, swarthy individual, with some I French peculiarities,.strongly enveloped. Pome of the oldest inhabitants say that Col. Pr\or employed Mom*. Fremont to: . teach Ins yuimg wife French. Certain it! 1 j*, that he rented of the : Colonel one of i the littlp offices ahove rlesrijtnl, and tookj 1 hi* meals a* n bomd-r, nt the CpIonePs table. What progress the holy made ip 1 Ktndving French is not known; hut. diit ring the interviews with her teacher, there . grew np_ in her breast sentiments and feel1 inga im omdstent with her- relations 10 , Col. Pryor. How long thUstate of thing* existed, we ate not informed; but the -result was, that Mr*;-Prroraml M. Fremont 1 fled from .the city to Forfolk, and‘there, i for a time, for a time, lived together-—lie, , it i* understood, pursuing the vocation' of ( npholcterer, which was supposed to have: been hi* original trade.; /They did not.j 1 however, reside long in Norfolk, lint went 1 to the South—wlierv tjie candidate for the I Presidency way horn—possibly, to 6a | [ v« n ii a h , t h ongh * om o o f llie rc'p o 11 s say , Charleston. ,• • j ( We cannot say Whether the parties were ever mgrried. Certain it. i« that, * Col. pryor was never divorced-from hi*! I wife, who thus left him more forlorn limn ’ he war. when she married him.' Thu i question arises, could there have ken a . legitimate marriage without a divorce? , It is proper to e*ld that Col, Pryor, after some time brooding - over the bad ! treatment be suffered in the desertion ot ' hie vvife, assuaged hi* grief by ’ marrying > another young woman, who'remained avuIi i htm until his death—he dying, it is hardly necessary to, add, without issue. Thu abduction of his first wife hy the Freni-h-J man. who showed not the slightest regard f for Ids prior claim*, was a sore subject to ■ the old Colonel. These incidents in the t life of the progenitor of the Fiee Soil . candidate for the Presidency, show that ho wa* at least a disciple of Free-Love, if r not of Free-Bidl.

’ Who can dare queetiou the fact that tha ose of alcoholic drinks is productive of evils of greater magnitude, and or consequences more serious to tho human. family, than all tha crime ami infamy, winch is now broad-.spread in oor conn* try. How mauy of our fashionable wine‘bibbers, while drinking themselves into delirium tremens, hug the Idea that they are enjoying the pure juice of the grape! Poor deluded souls-—the shadow of a vine leaf never cooled the fruit from which their hove rage was pressed! - 80 general, so well‘nigh uni ve real, are liquor adulterations at this day, that, should this Mato of things continue, puro juice of the gr«pe'» or pure liquor made from it, will ere long be. considered a wij4A, like the fabled nectar of the gods, which poets might Hob about, hut never drank; and every-day mortals might covet, but never saw. And tins is the com* pound, a free imbibition of which constitutes one of tha peculiar privileges of fashionable society! No wonder, when death rides on jtrcA a horse, ball follows quickly after! It is said that hogs fed at the diatilla** tea sometimes die of something like cholera; some of the large distil lei tea in the East during last year lost as high as four and five "hundred by this disease; one company in ;Naw York last season lost over eighty head in one week by this frightful disease". It was several years since discovered by some fiend, that by tiring strychnine (a preparation of nux*vomii - a, and a most insidious and deadly poison) in the yeast, they can produce from five to six gallons of whiritey to the hinhel of corn! when, by the old process, and without the strychnine, only two and a half gallons of whiskey could be .produced .to the bnriiel. The use. of this poisonous aiticle has become general hy those engaged in this nefariom. business. Oh, what a reality, that men, with a foil knowledge ot the consequences of their businfas, will yet engage in spreading moral and physical disease and death throughout onr land. Here is the foundation of all the miseries arising from this ill-fated business, and still worse if possible, that there are to ba found in chnrch and state those who are aiding, abetting and encouraging this abominable business. Oil what a fearful responsibility rests npon thorn.

.Kr Tbe following tradition, concern1 ing the vine, is to the point: When Adam planted the vine, and loft it, Satan approached it and said: "Lovely plantl l wilt cherish thee;’’ and thgrenpon. taking three anhbals, a lamb, a lion and h beg, he slayed them at the root of tlie tree', and their blood baa been imbibed by the tree to this day. Thus, if you take one Soblet of wine, yon are cheered by its innonce, yet are mild and docile as the lamb; If you take two goblets, yon become furious, and roarand bellow like a lion; and if you drink of the third goblet, your reason sinks, and like the bog, yon wallow in the mire.
