James S Hackney, Quartermaster General at Jefferson City, has sent a letter to the editor of the Jefferson Examiner, dated tho 1st inst., denying the charges made by a correspondent of the Missouri that Governor Price had sent twelve cannon and t.wcnty-tvvo boxes of muskets to Atchison'aad Striugfcllow for the conquest of Kansas. Tho letter says that no arms Imvo Icon given out except to regnlarly organized companies, and not then until every requirement ol tho Platte militia law had been complied with. 'Not a single gnu or musket lias ever been sent to Atchison or Stringfellow, hut on the contrary when applied to for arms By persons not entitled to them. Gov, Prico' has invariably refused. 81. Louis comity has received more arms than all the balance of the State. .
Have out readers ever beard of Professor tloLLpw'AT? Undoubtedly they have, just as' they have heard of Humboldt, As ago, Ocsstep Sillihav, Aosssrz, and other notable men'of learning. But have they ever asked themselves ir ho and irAol he is? If they have no definite information on t hat matter, we will proceed to enlighten them. The Professor .is an English' physician, a native of that country which pro* ilueed Harvey, Hunter, Abernelhy. nnd other illuminati' of medical science. So much for I ho wua; and now for the wiut. He is to other physicians what Clat, .Website arid Calhoun were to statesmen, what Washington—revered name!—was to patriots and generals, —what SaiKsrcEt was to dramatists, and lavino and Chalmers to preachers,—vie: the greatest of his age and profession. His reputation ba? penetrated the encru stations of prejudice, surmounted the banters of malice, and he avowedly . stands- >!■ ue, t the MEDICAL COLOSSCS of the world. So much for (he what, , - :

Wars ago, when the Professor ‘"ssa much' ytungcr man than he is at present, his attention was directed to the great disproportion be* tween the cures performed by the Physicians, and those which they undertook to-peifoiro, lie observed that not once in a score of cases were! hey, successful. It seemed to him, either that medicine vros noi worthy the name of 8 science,—that it was merely a thing of chanc, ond therefore a positive injury to mankind, or that Physicians tt’ere. ignorant' of the true healing art Having embarked on thestudy of human - physiology, am! understanding the pathology of diseases, he - alighted upon the (rue reason of want of success, and made that discovery w hich will immoitalize his name.— * To cme a disease, doctors treated it locally, topically; Was it the kidneys that- were deranged? Or the liver? / Or the slomahct Or the lungs? Straightway they proceeded to prescribe for kidneys, liver, lungs, or stomachy not knowing that the evil was contained in the Mood, which fed those organs with its life giving stream, and that to arrest the disease at its very seat and ccnlre, they should purify thni vital fluid, and leave the rest to nature. This is the secret of I)r. Uou-owat’s astonishing success in all parts of.the world. He purifies the blood and health follows. . ‘

ASTBchj. F. HalleU, who reported aud was probably the author of thc.Cnicinnati platform, is .oiio of the most notorious abolitionists in Massachusetts. He was also author of the celebrated Buffalo resolutions adopted by the abolition party in 1848, and'about that time said, “Hell was too comfortable a place for a slavebolder.” He seems to be a professional platform maker, and fills them up to order, giving them either a pro-slavery, an antislavery or a non*committal*aspect, as tbc circumstances and peculiarities may require.—ion.
