Qoe of Uie rarest and richest feats which the Democracy baa lately tickled the amazed public with, is to bhnw up Mr. Donelson, the American candidate, as an obscure and insignificant personage. Well, let ns see. In 1829, Gen. Jackson made him his private Secretary, a very responsible ami confidential position. In 1845, was appointed Minister to the Republic of Texas, and aided in ita annexation to the United States.— The Faroe year he was appointed by Mr. Polk, Minih'er to Prnssia. In 1849, he was appointed MiniMer to Germany, arid held that office under Gen. Taylor until it was abolished. The patriotic and con r apicuoua part he played in the Nashville Convention, is fresh in the' memory ol onr readers. V7hen the venerable Ritchie —the Tallyrand of the Democratic party —retired from (he Washington Union. Mr. Donelson was selected as Ms successor. Disgusted with the spoils policy of Pierce and his Administration, fie quit the "dry-rot" concern, and embarked in tire good cause of political reform—of Americanizing America. And this it the man that sham Democracy would ttullily before the country. Well, if Mr. Donclson is the obscure and unworthy individual they represent, old fashioned Democracy has much to answer for.
