Coubiou. —Sometime Wednesday eve- j ning the Telegraph Ko. 8, on her way to Louisville, and the Swallow, bound for Cincinnati, came into collision at the foot of Big Bone bar. Tho usual signals were exchanged, as we learn, the Swallow first tapping her bell onco to go to the starboard, which was answered by a single blast of the whistle of the Telegraph, sig“ niTying that to the starboard or right she would go too. But the next moment tire Stcallm gave two raps of her bell, which signified that she was going to the left. It was too lato then for the Ab. 3 to change her course, and the pilot stopped her, had the levers reversed, and commenced back* ing strenuously. This saved the Steafha from being cngulpbed and leaving her a wreck to bleach on Big Bone.. A-s it was however, she received but alight damage in the rude encounter; her jack-staff, bills railing and guards being knocked down, compelling her. to tic up to repair. The i -Vo. 8 was comparatively unhurt. Both j boats came together ‘head on.”

Tun Defeat at Indianapolis,— The Indianapolis Journal attributes tho defeat of the American parly in that-place, on Tmisday last, to the heavy foreign vote in the First, Sixth and seventh' AYards, where a large number of Irish voted who never lived, nor expect to live in the city. The Sixth ward was taken hy. the Dnlch bodily, and a native citizen was hardly allowed to vote, at all, A Urge wumber of Irish and (Iormans were just naturalized and turned loose in these devoted Wards, and the resultis setn. TlmAmcrscans, however, secured a majority of the Conned, which gives, them control‘of all the important measures of city policy and government, it is said hy those wrjo were irt a position to judge ocurafcly that at least three hundred illegal voles were polled.
