Xhe American I’arty, The American Reform Patty is entirely national in its character. Many of its unprincipled enemies attempt to prove that it is sectional—in the Southern Stoles being pto sU* very, and in the northern Stales anti-slavery: in Kentucky they say it is the whiskey party, while in Indiana it is ell temperance, dtc., ic. These various stories are all false, ami are told to have effect upon the people. As he said before, the American party is national—national in all its principles and aims. Slavery. Temperance, and all such things, are side issues, which affect the American party neither one way or the other. To be sure, whenever a question is popular with the majority of the people of a State, of coarsen majority of the American party favor the tame; for the parly is made of the people, for the people arc its founders and supporters. All other parties are ruled and governed by a few .politicians and office-seekers; in lie Americcn party every member has a vote and a voice in the transaction of all business, and even in the selection or nomination of candidates for the various offices, every menhir of the American party has ft vote, and no man can receive the suffrages of the people fet any office whatever, according to ; the' rules and usages of tbe new patty, unless he has been selected by a majority of the volet of the people. This is the only true plan. /'And by this means, no man can ever ttmist himself upon the public, and stand any chance of being elected. - :■
To Messrs. Cain and Hanymao I would say, that after the bitter fruits of bad banks, that we have ail tasted mrre or i«? there 3 months, it is a matter of surprise that <«ro banking laws have been passed by the Legislature, and that too, oveniOing the veto of the Governor. I have seen neither of these laws es yet, but from the veto message and the protest of the Democratic members of the Senate, I judge them to be more insane specimens of legislation than ever entered into the brain of Henry Clay, even in the heat of an extra version in the dog dayt, and with the help too of Arad Tyltr or dir, Bolts. In the Rkvkillk of the l8thinit,,Inoticean item is follows: "In Indiana there ate 120 banks, 15 of which arc quoted it par ia Cincinnati—the balance ranging from 6 to 25 per cent discount." Is not this a beautiful picture. Who are these honest Cincinnati brokers that they should have a shave of from £ to 35 per cent (at their own option) of ill our money they can get into their hands, and they know how* to get it too.* Some of your constituents wish to inquire If It be. true, that .Cincinnati Brokers have ever bad a bind ’in banklegislatipn at Indianapolis. There was a attempt made to free the .use of money from the fetters laid on it, it would teem for ‘ the benefit of these tame brokers, restricting Interest cm money to six, while they can;give 8 or lO, end to draw alt the surplus capital out of the State. How came this measure to fail? , . • ,

To Check Dlarrbea, The following simple method of check* ing diarrhea, after it has proved obstinate, is recommended by a wnlcr in the Morning Chronicle, who has often teen its efficacy tested:—"The readiest means of relief in cases of diarrhea known to me by experience, is that of roasting well two pieces of stale ernm of bread very brown, without burning, the size of two fingers, and breaking the toast very small into a wine glass, pour thereon sufficient brandy to saturate the toast in the glass, mashing it up with the liquid, braking it like pudding in substance, and eating it leisurely by mcanes of the teaspoon. Should the first attdmpt not succeed, repeat the same after an hour; but usually, (if timely applied,) relief from pain and abatement of the diarrhea is the result of the first adoption of this simple remedy—obtainable at every public-house, and probably at any chemist’s shop.*’ :

Some of our opponents pretend to aay, that they do not know «hal out principles arc—that they are all kept secret. This is untrue. Not one principle has never been' kept secret; the principles and aims of the American par* ly arc spread broadcast over the land—you can hardly pick up a respectable newspaper in the whole country, without you Cud an article explaining the principles of the American party. The ablest papers in the United States boldly avow and defend its principles. The most learned men the country affords am among its originators and adherents. ,

Certainty of d Future Life. • The fact of. the future, life—how do te prove it, by what class of method of argument? Every thinking man has many a time exorcised his mind upon the subject; and'bur philosophers, from Pythagoras downward, have' been piling up volumes of .high discourse on the immortality of the soul.' Vet who of us docs not seo that the fact is far deeper than alt reasoning about it, and that its roots are not touched by tho.critic’s phmmg-kni fe or the. logician** spade? The fact is part of the organic being, and the providencialtraining of the human race, Standing among those first (ruths which have their htwl evidences in themselves. Try to prove it logically, and still the best proof is better than our logic; try to disprove it logically, and onr chain of reasoning refutes itself when touched by living experience, as the iron rod. which man lifts against Heaven, becomes a conductor for the divine spark. — Osgood's Milestones.

! This is a false interpretation of the law alt so; a. man can make as much cider as he | wants to, and sell three gallons and over to [any and everybody; and bis neighbor can | take a glass of cider at his milt without violating the prohibitory law. Farmers always 'sell cider by the barrel. 5- Our "Inquirer” neglects to slate that his old line democratic party passed the free bank law, b> which the honest farmers and mechanics of the State of Indiana have lost thousands of doll ass; and no dnubl the Brokers of Cincinnati bought up enough old liners to pass that bill; as the said brokets arc heavy stockholders in the rotten concern; and our present Senator and Representatives deserve the (hanks of the people for assisting to so amend the old bill,, that the people will.lose nomorcohtbatsco»e.

Opr inquiring friend says he has read the “protest of the democratic members of the Senate” against the Bank bit!. In this he is again mistaken. There was no such protest made by democrats; there was a protest made by the members opposed to the bill, but Dr. Sage, with other republicans, signed that protest. Give honor to whom it is due. In answer to Inquirer's "sheer nonsense" about interest on money, we would inform him that that law was passed and upheld by old line legislatures; hence be cannot lay the blame to the present representatives. As to ihc matter of giving land owners a lien on the growing crops of tenants, to secure the rent, we know nothing: but if our representatives opposed such s bill, they did what was right. A bill of that character, instead of preventing litigation, would greatly increase that kind of law suits. Besides, we believe there arc more land owners than there ate dishonest tenants; and hence a law oft ha I character might be very oppressive to the honest but unfortunate ttffiint. Let us suppose a case; A poor but honest man rents 100 acrca of ground of an old liner, and agrees to pay him 86 jicr acre, when he raises a crop; ho plants his com and potatoes, and gives the land owner a lien on bis crop.
