The nest of a tarantula (spider) has been found in California, of most singular construction. It is about tbrco inches in length, by two in diameter, built of adobes, the Wall being nearly half an inch thick. Inside is a projection, which nearly divides it into two apartments about an inch in diameter. —The inside is lined with n white downy substance, not unlike vehet, and pre cuts one of the cleanest and mo>,t tidy little households imaginable. But the moat curious part of it is a door, which fits an aperture and closes it hermetically. The door is scoured hy a hinge, formed of the same fibrous substance ns the lining of the house, ami upon jyhich it swings w ith freedom. —The next is occupied by a dozen little tarlantulas, which seem to subsist upon a yellow secreted substance that appears upon the wall of the first apartment. The arrangement of .the door for the protection of the little inmates, indicates great instinctive architectural knowledge. It is the intention of the tinder to forward this* curiosity to the Smithsonian Institute at Washington,

Heretofore all laws for the government of. the one hundred millions of British subjects in India, have been prescribed by the Board of directors of tlic East India Company in London—the Governor General in Calcutta, or, lately, by the British Parliament. This grievance has been partly reminded by an Act of Parliament, organizing what they-facetiously cal! an Indian Legislature, composed oftlia Governor General, the'Governors of the virions presidencies, and high judicial fin:tfonaries—all appointed by the Crown, with authority to make laws and regulations for the. government of India. ■ Altliough each of the subordinate governments will bo duly represented in the legislative Council, ho popular element will enter into its composition;,. It has therefore, been proposed in some measure to remedy this defect, by. allowing on occasions . accredited agents of, particular sections of the community to appear before tho council to iuabo known the wants, wishes or objections of those whom they represent, Whelher this point will be conceded remains to be seen, Tlio first session of this Legislature took place on the ,20 th of May./ The public arc not permitted to bo present, and can only know so,much of their proceedings os they may choose to publish in 'the official gazette.

As a digester, as some not inappropriately call it, cheese—that which is decayed and mouldy being preferred by con : noissears—is eaten after.dinncr, The action which experience seems to have proved it to possess, in aiding the digestion of what has previously been eaten, is both curious and interesting, and has some light, thrown apon it by resent chemical research. When the curd of milk is exposed to the air in a moist state fora few days at a moderate temperature, it begins gradually, to decay, to emit a disagreeable odor, and to ferment. When in this state, it possesses ihe properly, in certain circumstances,' of inducing a species of chemical change and fermentation in other moist substances with which it is mixed, or is brought into contact. It acts after the same manner as sour leaven docs when mixed withsour dough. ■ . Now old and partially decayed cheese acts in a similar way when mlruduced into the stomach, it causes chemical changes gradnally to commence among particles of the food which has previoaniy been eaten; and thus facilitates the dissolution which necessarily precceds, digestion. It is only some kind* of cheese, however, which will affect this purpose. Those are generally considered the best in which homo kind of cheese monhl lias established itself. Ueuco tho mere eating of a morsel of cheese after dinner does not necessarily promote digestion.
