Notice,
Dwnrl Fears.
As I have had a good deal of experience in raising dwarfs) and have a dwarl orchard of some 500 varieties, some years planted, X will give yon some of my experience. I find on the true Angiets quince almost all the varieties grojv freely, while om the common quince only a few will grow. Still many varieties do not continue to grow in a healthy state for any length of time. If. a tree gets once stunted, there is little chance of its ever recovering so as to be a healthy tree, and nearly all the trees peddled about arc more or less stunted. Purchasers sbonld examine the trees in the nursery rows them selves, before buying, when they could easily judge what trees and what varieties are perfectly good nnd suitable, or they should send their orders to nurserymen they can depend on for supplying a genuine and thrifty article.

Rising Sun Iron Foundry. THE undersigned, having permanently established themselves at Rising Sun, in the Foundry Business, would respectfully inform the Hay Growers of Indiana and Kentucky, that they still continue to manufacture Screws for the Mormon or Beater Hay Press, which are not inferior to any made in the United States, from the fact that the best Press Builders give our Screws the preference over all others.
I have trees propagated from nearly every variety in my nursery. Several hundred of such varieties appear to he perfectly suitable to tlie quince stock, and many, more especially of the newer vane- . ties, grow with the greatest luxuriance. Uut to cultivate dwarf pears properly and with certainty in this climate, they must be mulched twice a year—once in June or early in July, digging it in slightly in October; second, in December, diggingit in again in April. The routs of the qninco are so much nearer the surface than the pear, that they arc more readily affected with the drouths of summer and the frosts of winter.

• Lost winder was severe on unprotected dwarf pears. In wet ground those in nursery rows, were nearly nil killed, and the same in sandy soil. Strong clayey loam, sufficiently dry that water won't stand on it, is-the best soil. On such there is little trouble in cultivating them, and they arc much superior, to standard pears. TIic Power of Silence.
A good woman,in Now-Jcrscy was sadly annoyed by a terraigant neighbor, who often visited her and provoked a quarrel. Sho at last sought the counsel of her pastor, who added sound common scnce to his other good qualities. Haying heard tho stbiy of her wrong, lie advised her to scat herself quietly in the chimney corner when next visited, take tho tongs in her hand, loot steadily into the fire, and whenever a hard word came from her neighbor’s lips, gently snap the tongs, without uttering a won!. A day or two afterwards the good woman came again to her pastor, with bright and laughing face, to commnnicatp the effects of this new antidote for scolding. The troubler had visited her, and, as usual, commenced her trade. Snap went tho tongs. Another volley, Snap. Another still. Snap. “Why,don't you speak? Raid the termagant, , still mors enrifcbd. Snip. Speak! said she, Bnapi; “Why dont you apeak*; I shall’ split if'you dofai spcakl 1 *'; And away stw iwegt ctpred, of her molady by the magic power of silence.
