It owns six acres of land just inside the corporation line, extending from Michigan street to the Vandalia right of way. It has its own side track. It has a first class equipment of wood working machinery, including its own electric light plant. The power is supplied by two horizontal tubular boilers, each 125 horse power capacity, giving a total steam

metal parts with it. The Plymouth Novelty Mfg. Co. has made a specialty of wood register faces for cold air ducts as shown by the cut. The Plymouth Novelty Mfg. Co. has enjoyed the trade of the largest manufacturers of telephones in the Independent field, including the Stromberg-Carlson Tel. Mfg. Co., Chicago Tel. Supply Co. and others.

Wire Bound Box Department. In June, 1910. additions were made to the buildings of the Plymouth Novelty Mfg. Co. and connected with the power by extending the main shaft, in which was begun the manufacture of wire bound packing boxes, under the Fassnacht patents. They are made in sections so that the different parts can be readily joined together by means of wires which strengthen the thin lumber. These wires so strengthen the thin lumber that a 3-16" board can be used in place of a half inch board and a quarter inch board in place of an inch board, where one-half inch or one inch boards would be required in a packing box held together by nails. This makes possible a great saving in lumber and is therefore conservation of our national resources. It also makes a saving in freight to the shipper or consumer of the manufactured product.

Wire bound packing boxes have been used extensively for several years but have been joined together in such a way as to make a very awkward package to handle, while boxes made under the Fassnacht patents are made in sections, detachably connected, and are shipped in bundles as shown by the cut, constituting in the opinion of railroad officials high in authority in freight handling, and in the opinion of large box users, the latest development in the art of making packing boxes. Boxes made under these patents are stronger than any other wire bound boxes manufactured. They have met with great success and the demand is much larger than the capacity of the factory, which has one customer alone who is under contract to take 500 boxes per day. The Plymouth Novelty Mfg. Co. gives steady employment to about sixty employees.
