dation rested, therefore, the golden temple and the later temples of Ezra and of Herod. The modern, like the ancient, Temple of God rests upon the foundations of the universe. Religious thought and scientific research work together to bring them to view. It comes with invigorating freshness to one who discovers it in experience, that the words of Christ are based upon old. tut newly discovered, foundations of the universe, and are therefore In harmony with the newly discovered truth of each generation. "

' These thoughts are suggested by what our Lord said a few days before His death: "Verily, verily, I say unto 'you, except a corn of wheat fell into the ground and die it abldeth alone; but If it die, it bringeth forth much fruit" He took a truth of nature and showed that it applied both to himself, and to us, true equally of the seed, the Savior and the sinrer. ! The seed preserved misses its destiny and abides alc.ne. Sown in the earth, and dying, it brings forth frv.it. Consider the illimitable scope of this law. The surface of the world had to perish age after age, to produce a soil in which plant life could live; plants had to perish, as they do now, that animals might live; uncounted billions of creatures, huge and Infinitesimal, had to -perish that man might appear; i whole races have to pass away, that higher races may be developed; old "customs and Ideas must die to give plac? to fuller truth, j The word Easter illustrates this perfectly. Ostara, the goddess of spring to our heathen ancestors, the Ishtara of the Phoenicians, the Istar of Babylonia, has perished from the minds of men, only her name remainleg as the designation cf the world's new springtime hopo of immortality in ti e resurrection of Jesus Christ. Sunday itself is ?uch a testimonial;

the diy c? the sod cf the Sun, worl Ehippe-i no longer, has named tne great resurrection day of the conqueror of -all heathen gods. Everything baa to perish to lead to somestLin3 letter. Money hoarded is money wasted; scattered about in manufactures nvd commerce. It Is. the seed of prosperity. . . , Our Lord says that what is tru of the seed is true of the Savior. The Son of Man, because he was a son of man, could not. be glorified exoept through death. No son of man can be. Until he died, Christ was alone; the only begotten son in his birth, lonely In his life, lonely in Gethsemane, alone before the Sanhedrim, Heitxl and Pilate; he trod the wine-press alone and was laid in a lonely grave. He was

a seed of immortality. His resurrection waat as natural as the coming up of green things In springtime. . He could not be holden of death. Over such a spirit as his, death hath no power. Is his resurrection wonderful? Far more wonderful, quite beyond belief, would be the passing cf such a spirit into eternal silence and nothingness. He showed that what was true of the seed and of the Savior Is true also of tL sinner. Whoever saves life will'lose It, and only he who loses his life for the highest things can save it. Save your body from wear and tear of labor, and. you destroy It Save your brain from thinking, and you become a mental weakling. , Only as we constantly destroy our bodies and . brains by proper exercise can they kave higher life. Life Is for each of us a handful of seeds. We can eat them, or vre can save them, or we can sow them. We must eat something to preservs life; but If . for pleasure we dev too I much of our time, talents, labor, '1 ! money or religion, not sowing It .- i iieed to do good, we destroy ourtslves tin Russian and Indian famines, people -lometiines eat the teed Intend for sowing.
