understand my thoyglhs from afar, without touc hing her. I said I did not know but was going to try. I sat four or five feet distant from her, fixed my eyes upon her face, and called her by her name; immediately she moved her head towards nve and said very audibly, what do you wish for, sii V7 We were all in amazement. Then 1 approached her, took up her hand, and talked with her two or
; three minutes. As it was irrowinsr late. I susr-
gested the idea of bringing her to her sleeping room, in order to procure her a good night's rest. The room having been prepared by Mrs. Pales, 1 mentally requested the somnambulist to go to bed. She made an aftimativc motion with her head. Then I gave Iter my hand she got up very readily, and walked into her sleeping room, her eyes being perfectly closed. I left her there with Mrs. Kales, and re-entered the parlor with Mr. Richards and Mr. Falcs. A few minutes being elapsed, Mrs. Falcs came and told us that the somnambulist was in bed. 1 entered the room with Jlr. Fales I approached Miss Gleason, and mentally asked her whether she wished for anything? She ?aid. I should like to have some water; a
tumbler was then presented to her b Mr. Fales, but she would take no notice of it. 1
took the tumbler, and magnetised it, without pronouncing a single word. I presented it to her, and she immediately held out her hand from the sheet'-, and before driking, jcslinglv, said, I hope your water is good, ami costs you nothing. She then put the tumbler to her mouth, and drank the very last drop. Unobserved that she kept the glass to her mouih for half a minute, ami sucked as a child would its mothers milk. She then took it from her mouth and asked for some more. All this scene was the most interesting and impicssive that I have ever witnessed. A few injinctiis after, I held my right hand on her forehead, and mcntaly bade her good night. She answered very distinctly, at the same time gnuping my hand, "good night to y u when shall I see you again?"' Te-morrow morning at half past 8 o'clock. That is rilu." Then again my hand on her forehead, I wished her a profound and restoring sleep, and

From the Philadelphia Saturday CAren. TIIF. HUMAN TEETH. If vc exi.rpt the eye and the brow, there is perhaps no part which has so often been the suhjert of eulogy and admiration of poets, as the teeth, 'the rows,of pearl." These eulogies are founded ;n nature. For that which attracts by its symmetry and perfection the attention of genius, is generally found not alone handsome and attractive, but useful. Some philosophers have gone so far as to assert that our ideas o( beauty are bated on the fitness of objects for tlieir particular oflire; which properly translated means their utility. This assertion, when applied to the teeth, e"e, brow ;r.'fort hi:ud, is dubtless correct. Beautiful and well arranged let lb, denote no inferior powers of njalicati in and expression. The first i all imj!rtant t mir physical health, and the tpcond is necessary to a proper exhibition of thought and sentiment.

Stkam Voyages. The longest steam voyage undo taken at present is from Corfu, bein' l.tHJO miles, and is accomplished at an ave rage speed of seven ai.d a half miles an hour. A gentleman in the vicinity came very near losing his life a few days since, in consequence ( having administered to him by mistake a quantity of muriatic acid instead of wine of antimony.
A .Magnificent Picture. An extent of navigable communication of mere than thirty .housand miles, is afforded by the inland waters of our country. On the banks of these, including lakes, streams, and canals, there are upwards of live hundred flourishing ullages, many of which will be cites soon, ou their bosoms, five thousand vessels, five thousaud steamboats, thiee thousand canal boats, and four thousand various crafts, of other descriptions.

It is, however, often the first to decav, Irom want of sufficient room in the jaw for its growth and expansion. '1 he foregoing description applies strictly to the permanent teeth, those which are to serve us during life. Before these are developed, before the jaw has attained its full size, while the being is in its infancy, and does not therefore require teeth very strong or permanent, it is supplied with a set smaller in number, and more delicate in structure; which passes away, before greater powers and a more robust constitution of body demand
strong and permanent organs of mastication. This set is called the diciduous, or milk teeth, and its number is twenty, nnd is composed of the follow ing named teeth on each

Occasionally children have been bem with them, whilst in other ca-es they have not pierced the g'i. until after the age of two years. Generally the middle incisors of the hzocr jaw appear u-
