TUB PALMER'S HYMN. The following beautiful lines ure from the pen of the 'Etrick Shepherd. They are designe I to represent the morning prayer cf a maniac, who voluntarily became this outcast of the desert. I andetl be thy narce forever. CURIOUS ASTRONOMICAL THEORY. We state the following on the authority of
T1. Arago, an eminent trench astronomer
If we place in a horizontal line the series of
iigures of which the law is evident, 0 3 6 12 24 43 1Q-
(each double the preceding,) and afterwards add 4 to each, we shall have a series deno ting the relative distances cf the Planets from the Sun, thus: 4 7 10 1G QS 52 100 1G6 Mer. Ven. Earth, Mars, . . J up. Sat'n. Uranus. If 10 represents the distance of the Earth, 4 iil he that of .Mercury, 7 Venus, 16 Mars, and 52, 100, and 196 the respective distances isfJupitur, Saturn, and Uranus. This lawwas known as far as 100, before the disco iery of Uranus; and the distance being found to correspond, affords, a very remarkable con
tirmation of its truth. But it will be observed there is a deficiency of one term between Mars and Jupiter. Tins led philosophers to suspect the existence of a planet at the distance required to fill up the vacancy, and in 1801, Piazzi, of Palermo, actually "discovered one, whose orbit was between those of Mars and Jupiter, and nearly at the proportional distance of 23 from the Sun. This planet was named Ceres; and since that ne
liod three others have been found Pallas,
J uno, and V esta all of which have their or 1 its, so near each other as to lead astrono mors to believe that these are the fragment:

' The me'.eors of November 13:h, had their origin beyond the limits of our atmosphere. The height of the place whence the meteors emanated, above the surface of the earth, was about 2,233 miles. "Tlie meteors fell towards the earth in straight lines, and in directions, which within considerable distances, were nearly paral lei with each other.
