Stale Prison Convicts. The prisoners who were sentenced by the court of sessions, on Monday, to an imprisonment in the state prison at Sing Sing, were safely conveyed hy the sheriff to thai institution the following day George Fosdick, convicteu of the atternnt to rob the brokers office of Mr. Vo'd, was among the number. The d rinr manner hy which he sought effect that robbery induced the court to sentence him to the longest term of imprisonment which thev were ati thoriz-J by hw to award, md he was consequently sentenced for the term of ten years at hard labor. Fosdick, who i-s yet comparatively a young man, was convicted in this cilv in 1812, bv the name of Gideon Gardner, of a ffrand larreuv, and sentenced for the offence to an imprisonment in the old State prison at Greenwich for four years In March of the following y ear he effected his escape over the wall of the prison yard hy means of a rope, at one end of which he tied a piece of iron, which wasthr nvn over the wall on the opposite side, bv which he drew himself mp. This was effected in the middle of the day, in the face of sever al sentinels who were stationed at va lion points of look out upon the wall, orto of whom h must have passed within four feet. He went from here to Britl, in the state of Rhode Island. whrr he shipped on board the privateer B'-acnhle. After a short cruise he was takn and carried into Sierra Le one. where he remained a prisoner of j war for ahout I ur months, and was then sent home in a cartel. Upon his arrtv il here, he immediately shipped in the President, on a cruise with Comm vl r? R-gers about four months.
