Suicide. On Wednesday night, 30th Nov
Mr. William Watt, of Chillirothe, Ohio, hang
himself with the lines ot bis team, in the woodshed at Mr. Newman's tavern, in this
borough. He had urdertaken to trarispoi
specie, estimated to weigh 3,10 lbs. from
Chillicothe to Philadelphia.
At Wheeling we understand he transfer
red his load to another teamster, (intending
to accompany it himsell) and sent his son
back with his team; but becoming appre hensive of risk in the transportaiion, he fol
hwed his son, returned with the team, and
again took in his loading. In these changes
of the load, it was observed that a hoop of
one of the casks had become loose, and the
fear that some of the money had been stolen
01 some other cause, produced such a deep impression of spirits in Mr. Watt, that his son watched him, which, however, was unavailing. The specie was deposited in the bank in this place. Frederifc Md. Sentinel. From the Illinois Advocate we learn, that the Illinois and Michigan c-inal is fast pro
gressing to a state of completion, under the authority of the legislature of that state. Indeed, boats of a light draaght have already pa?sfid from the lake to the Illinois, and a few years will probably be sufficient to change a large portion of the trade from New York to Si. Louis, and the other towns upon ihe Mississippi, into this channel. s
Mr. Phillips, of Soutfewark, will put his new canal steambort Experiment in operaiion on Wednesday nest. In the S( huylkill, at Fair Mount. The boat Is 60 by 10 1 2 feet, and has a low pressure engine of five horse power. Mr. Philips calculates, that it can be propelled at the rate of eight miles an hour, with ease, nnd without ruffling the water. He inviles persons intereled and the citizens generally, to witness the trial. Phi ladelphia paper.

On Matt. chap. v. 22, where the phra9e hell fire occurs for the first time in the good book, he makes the following remark: "But I say unto you that whosoever is angry with his brother without cause, nhall be in danger of the judgment, i. e. shall come under the cognizance of the Jen-tsh court thejw dicaturt of twenty and three judges and whosoever shall suffer his anger to break forth into any contemptuous behaviour, or slighting expression, such as racha, shall be in danger of the council the greater court the sanhedrim consisting of seventy and one judges. But whosoever shall say to his brolher, in anger , thou fool -hall be in danger of the highest pur.ishment of that court; the fire of Gehenna: i. e. tobe burnt in the valley of Hinnom."
The criminal executioner, commonly called Jack Ketrh, was lately summoned to the court of reque-tn, by the landlerdof a public house in the Old Bailey, for a bter score, nnd on heitiasked how he could pay it, the fellow scratched bis head, and replied that business was ver bat! of late, they having ent so many of bis cintumers to Botany Hay, and really be could t"' hv how be could pay it; but, if so be ie h'nv the genlleman pleased, be had no onjeclion ta work it out for hirn or any of hi f, unity A man wns once heard to say, that Hi Ireland he had seen fish swim up hill, with their t ill-' head foremost.
