|E-D-1- T-O-R-I -A-L | The shocking story that broke last Wednesday about the baby that was abandoned at the 141 Salle Rest Park, three miles west of Walkerton, caused the usual conversation that could be expected. This cruel act, committed by someone that had to be out of their head, makes one shudder as they read the facts To abandon a chile, even with the proper legal action that can be done through the proper agencies, Is bad enough, but when a new born child is simply left to die, it Is all the worse. To add to the horror of the thing, the mother or parents, whichever the com be, disposed of the child in such a cruel way it is enough to Justify any punishment that WATCH For The APACHE NEXT WEEK

could be inflicted on the responsible party. With the death of the boy Monday morning, this case turns in to murder. Regardless of the charges brought out by the law officials, this is still murder. It can’t be .said that abandoning this child in this fashion didn't load to its death. The cause of death was ruled as probably coming from “irreversible shock due to exposure.” but it was also stated that death could have been from a bacteremia infection, which could have been contracted from the rest room pit where the child was found. In all probability, the mother or parents of this child will never be found. They will be unpunished as far as the law Is concerned, but still they are the ones that have to live with this thought always on their minds. It probably stemmed from one of two things, an illegitimately bom baby or one born to a family who simply did not want a child. In either case, what type of warped mind could pull such a stunt? If it were from an illegitimate birth, does destroying a child make up for the mistakes and shame of the mother” Is the child now responsible for the place and conditions of his birth” If the second were true, a family that simply didn’t want a child should still be human enough to take the proper care of a child. Many people are anxiously waiting to adopt children. These questions of why will probablly never be answered unless of course, the guilty party is apprehended. However, don't for one minute think that this crime will go unpunished as the guilty party will pax’ for tMs one way or another. Be Wise — Advertise!

Voice of the People I just came home from the first band concert, and I'm a little angry. The band rehearses faithfully for this concert and a lot of them go out of their way to be present, and the minute the drawing is over, the majority of their audience leaves and the concert Is only half over And there are all kinds of choice parking spaces near the band. Those who remained I think were parents, datvs or friends of someone in the band. I noticed that the majority of the stores closed a 8:00. Judging from the crowd, it seems most people have their shopping done by the time the concert starts. I heard one merchant complain that they are swamped all at one time with a horde of people ten or 15 minutes before closing time. Im sure they like tho business, but not all at once and at the last minute. The band is being used as * drawing card and their efforts are appreciated. I’m sure, but the thanks they get is to have most of the crowd walk away when the drawing is over. Therefore. I suggest that the drawing be held immediately after the concert is over.
