MOVIE REVIEWS From THE RIALTO Just in case the Earth does nt have enough to cop* with, Sunday. when Jercy Lewis arrives at the Rialto Theatre in "Visit to a Small Planet,” it will have i oi.-! The new Hal Wallis-Par-amount production is an adaptation of the hit Goro Vidal Breadway show. It co-stars Joan Blackr.i.n, Earl Holliman and Fred Clark and features John Williams. Gale Guidon and a truly remarkable young dancer, Barbara Lawson. Jeny portrays Kreton. an impish creature from outer space whose insatiable ciwiosity about humans and their ways sends him spinning from cut of the mysterious stratosphere to a realistic ■ grounding’ somewhere in Virginia on the “small planet'' beneath. He arrives dressed in what he believes the appropriate attire for the period—the uniform of a C. nfederate .Umy officer but he luckily visits a family that is about to attend a masquerade party so his outLandish attire is taken fur gi-anted as just another costume. The family is far less lu< ky tlian he. however, since they soon learn the Haith about their wierd self-invited house guest and find themselves in the middle of the kind of goings-on ihat have to be seen to be well, not believed, but enjoyed. Lovely Joan Blackman, who scored so well as the young wife in “Career," portrays the daughter of the family She is engag<xl to a hot-tempered boy, played by Earl Holliman, who finds himself up against something new in rivals when Kreton falls in love with his girl. The problems that develop as a result of Kreton s deciding to become an Earthling are so funny ihat Jerry Lewis fans are going to say, “Visit to a Small Planet is the most upr< arious picture he ever made. then the most misinformed of all television commentators who doesn’t believe in the existence of flying saucers, yet must play host to the zany visitor from the wild, blue yonder.
