World War II Vets Have Additional! Two Years To Obtain Veteran's Loarl

South Bend VA office, said today that President Eisenh' wer has signed a bill just passed by Congress which extends the July 25, 1960. cutoff date to July 25. 1962. Also. und«T this new law. both World War II and Korean conflict veterans can continue t< apply for direct loans from th Fe<lenil Government if they live in designated rural areas where GI loans are not obtainable Lrom local lending institutions. In Indiana, veterans in larger coiniimties have not been dr dared eligible for direct loans. Some replenishment of funds for direct loans was authorize! in the new law. Funk said. New expsraticn date for the guaianteed loan program for World War II veterans and for the direct loan program for both World War II and Korean veterans is July 25, 1962 Since it was started in June 1941. the GI loan program has guaianteed more than 111,000 loans to Indiana veterans, tctaling approximately $759 million. Since 'direct loans were first authorized in July 1950, the Indianapolis office has made 5.600 totaling $39 million, in rural areas and small towns Where veterans could not secure loans from local lending facilities. The GI loan interest rate of 5t t percent remains unchanged by the new law. The new law will also require that earnest money deposits veterans make be placed in trust accounts so that they will be safeguarded in case the builder becomes insolvent.
