E-D-I-T-O-R-I-A-L I The Fourth of July, to he celebrated in a big way in Walkerton as is usually the case, is a tune of jcvfulness and happiness. Put, the thought behind the holiday is the thing that makes this h< In ay su< h a time of fun. The Fourth is the day set aside for the anmveisiry of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, in 1776. by the fathers of >ur country as they had settled this land of outs, had many ti.als and tribulations, but finally were able to declare their independence as a free nation. Since this historic time, the Declaration of Independence has been challenged many times. by other nations and also in a Civil War between the states of our i<nmtry. Il has been protected by the Americans siiccessfuly < n each, occasion and has still proven t > be the greatest of all pacts of ts type. Since the beginning cf freedom of our countiy, less than 200 years ago. the United States has risen to the position of the most powerful country in th (> world. We are looked to for leadership, pi >t e< tion and help from many cf the countries of the world. This leadership and show of strength, plus the high standards of Living We enjoy, has pt oven that this type of gaiment is certainly the best and the strongest. Right now. as for several years. We are living in times of tension and fright in many respects. The international situation is not one of peace, but one of a fight for supremacy and power. Whatever the outcome of the feelings between the U. S. and other countries. we are still the respected
