Peail Trost Honored At Sunday Service Sunday morning, June Sth, was a very special ojiening program in the Sunday School of the Methodist Church. The occasion was to honor Mrs. Pearl Trost for her many years of service activities in the Primary and Kindergarten department of the Sunday School. The committee from the Education and Commission, headed by Mrs. Robert Gardner and O. D. Eib had all the Sunday School except the very small chi!dren, to assemble together. After the usual opening and announcements, Mr. Efb asked Mrs. Trost to come forward and stand. He then announced that in as much as she was resigning her office as Junior Church leader after serving an a worker in the Primary department and kindergarten work ibr an unbroken twenty-six years, that the Sunday Schoo] expressed their appreciation with a grist. This he presented to her. Mrs. Trnst accepted the package, neatly wrapped in white paper. Then in brief and fitting remarks said. "Words cannot express my 'thank you’. I have worked for the church because I loved it. I have enjoyed It. My talents have been not too numerout; so those I had I have used over and over again.” Unwrapped, th p package revealed a lovely illluminated picture of Solomon’s Head of Christ. Mrs. Trost lifted it high so the children, too. might see. "This Is one of my favorite pictures. I do love it” This will add to her memories of the days through the many yearn of serving in the work of the little children of Walkerton. After the showing of the picture Mrs. Gardner announced the closing rtf that part of the service would be to sing the favorite hymn of Mrs. Trost. This was “Beautiful Garden of Prayer.’’ Mrs. Troet is bo seldom absent from the Mttle people’s department that when she is not there, even the tiniest of them miss her

to the extent of remarking as one little girl did two weeks ago. Mrs. Trost was attending a class reunion. One little girl stopped and asked the teachers, "Where is til© fat lady w<ho sits in the hall and who plays the piano?” Another little fellow pointed to the epot empty of the usual occupant and said, "Gone”. Mrs. Trost laughed in being told of these little children and said, "It is gxxel to b© missed, especially by the children.” Mrs. Pean irost has been n resident of Walkerton for a period of half a century. Her father, H. W. Gohn, operated a mercantile business on Roosevelt road in the business section for seventeen years. She and her sister, Mrs. Clem DeCoudres of North Liberty, worked for their father in the business ?or seven years. Later Mrs. Trost worked in the Independent News office for fifteen years. She was employed by Muskins Mfg. Co., for six years, and then worked in the Walkerton Lumber Company four year. l Her years in Walkerton startc i in 1910. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H W. Gohn, were very active Methodists who just never missed a service in the church. They encouraged their daughters to love the work of the Lord. Both of them became members of the church in their youth and havi served in various churches thru the years. In 1911 Mrs. Trost and her sister organized the Primary Department in the Methodist Church. This has kept alive and grown ever since. She acted as pianist for years for the church services also. As her husband, Arthur Trost, was a member of the Presbyterian Church and desired the company of his wife in his worship, Mrs. Trost joined him there in 1924. During the ten years that she attended the church of her husband’s choice, she entered into active Sunday School work there wish the primary department, being superintendent of the division After his death,, she returned to the Methodist Church. This was in 1934. At once she took up where she
had leA off ten years ago and worked in the Sunday School. She became superintendent of the primary department. Then in 1945 while Rev. W. Ray Kuhn was minister, Mis. Trost organized the Junior Church. This was and still is a worship service that goes on Sunday mornings during the same time as the worship service is in session in the sanctuary. Mrs. Trost is resigning from this office. Her reasons are several. One cf them is that she will be married on June 29th in the Methodist Church to William G. Bussard of Tucson, Arizona. The families have been friends for many years. In the fall they will reside in Arizona in the warm climate. Not only has Mrs. Trost been interested in the work of the little children, she has been active in the Philathea Class serving as its secretary and reporter. She has been treasurer of the Sunday School and secretary of the Education Commission for years. Always a lover of music, Mrs. Trost has played the piano for the department upstairs and often filled in for other services and isograms.
