WALKERTON INDEPENDENT — April 21, 1960
| EDITORIAL Wth the spring weather here, it is time the Town of Walkerton ondugo's a Spring Clcm-Up. A combimd effort of the n.u han’.; ar. 1 residents, .dike could n.a! ? our t >wn a mu h more attractive jaie to live, tt ttainly T i outs.d i'■ to e and also a h o.A on i'l ’ r mitary side It would b< a g » 1 task, nr thbucness houses to w i k t<-g»tl,c: in this resp< t .et a < <«rt dn ti;::.' lot a big < lean-up di v> and n. k • chopping ,n Walkerton the n:o..t attractive that it cm p< s .bly be. With the big town-wi-e pror. a;;n coming next week. the thoughts <>f offering the h« st in c mwn.- < n< e* for the customers seems 'd'e only g<>od business A m ‘rchant will go to almo; t any extent to make the inside of Ins stop* attractive. but the cutt de should not be neglected in this respect either. Especially in this windy season of the yeai. much dirt, papeis. leaves and trash is blown around, up and down the business district until it € nnes to nest in front or the local I.sinews houses. Why then. Fhouldn't the outside be given equal consideration also? For the residents, one certainty enjoys Visiting a town where the lawns and properties are kept in r. at order Nothing attracts more favorabel comment than towns n id cities, or at least s< etions of such, in this condition. The efforts of most have been very good v. ith die coming of the much milder weather, but still a lot can be cl- ne. Take a look around, d.res your yard or business look as nice ns it could with just a few mor hours work? Well, if not. then don’t you think that this time would be well-spent in this respect ? Our town is something to be pi oud of Let's not degrade it for r. 1 by the carelessness and unLdincss of just a few. The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce purchased waste containers for the main street last year, and thou* usage alone has. done a considerable job for the appearance o? the town. Despite the small size of papers from candy bars, ice cream and so forth, the bad appearan< e given by these makes the town look just that much worse Lt's you and I in fact everyone from the small children to the adults, make an effort to clean our town and help to keep it clean once this is done. Remember, it's your home, too! MISS TRAVIS —THIRD GRADE We have five children with perfect attendance for these five terms. They are Linda BelLnger, Steven Buswell, Sharon Howard Lloyd Roth and Douglas Storey We an* Very sorry to lose Eil'y Watts, who is moving with his f <miiy to Fulton County He will attend school in Rochester, A pessimist is just a sentimental optimist who expected too much, i
