Winners Named At Walkerton Lanes House Tourney The 1960 House Tourney of the Walkerton Bowling Ivanes was held over the past week end with a good turn-out of bowlers for the annual affair. Eugene Rhodes was named King for 1960. to share the honors with the Queen. Pearl Frailey, who achieved her title one week prior, as he bowled a total of 1723 for his nine games scratch He edged out John Kerr, who finished second with a total of 1716. BUl's Package Store, a member of the Monday Night League, won the team title with a total score of 3029, topping the second place Dill's D-X team by 21 points Six teams finished with a higher total than the champions of last year as the team record hell with every shift The members of the winning team are Sandy Nusbaum, Bill Zahrt (sponsor), Gall Groves, Louis Houser and John Clark. The Walkerton PT A. will hold their January meeting at the High School Thursday evening at 7:00 p m. with an interesting program scheduled for thia particular meeting. A panel discussion will be the mam attraction with the much in । the news school reorganization as the subject. ’ The Township Advisory Board of the School Reorganisation. I headed by chairman Clyde Chap(man, will conduct the discussion other members of the board are Robert Awald, Wayne Cover, Mrs Robert Hiler and Mr* Grant Bellinger. • Also. James McKesson, chairman of the County Reorganization Board, will be on hand to answer any questions and discuss the matter for all. Tickets Available For County Tourney Walkerton has received their quota of tickets fur the St. Joseph County Basketball Tournament The amount of tickets appears to be quite sufficient from the relative small number of advanced orders, therefore there will De no need for drawing for tickets. Set Up Plans For Mother's March For Polio Funds A meeting to organize Mother? . for the March of Dime* was hel i in the home of Mrs. Amos Hunt on Tuesday. Dr. EHliott Frash, chairman of the March of Dunes for the Walk-; erton area, presided. He explained , to the group that emphasis is now being put on finding the causes ‘ and cures for two of the nation's leading crippiers, birth defects and arthritis. The National Foundation is now shouldering the biggets and moat ambitious health 1 program ever undertaken by any 1 voluntary health organization. The old job, that of conquering I polio, is far from complete. Bums Ditch Aiea Is Program Topic The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday, January 14. at the Community Building fur its first meeting of the new year. Following the dinner the guest speakers were introduced by the program chairman They were; Wm Be< kman. the president of the Junior Chamber o? Commerce James Gland. Executive Secretary of Portage. Their talk was made on the behalf a petition being of Westchester Area, Gary and circulated, backing the development of the Burns Ditch Area as a deep-Sea Port and industrial site, Mr. Gland pointed out that Poiitical parties, unions and Chambers of Commerce were backing this piuject This bill to defeat such a project goes before the Senate in February It was stressed that 100. uOq signatures were needed on the petition prior to that time. Following the program the Wa.kerton Chamber of Commerce went on record as favoring the develop, n.ent of the Bums Ditch Area as an industrial site and deep-Sea- ’ way and several business places j>n Walkerton will have the petition in their stores for those who a!.«*o favor this development Those stores are: Dave A Rays Superette, Holsers Elevator, Farmers State Bank, Nick's Super Market, Walkerton Lumber Co., and Jacob Drug Store. The lot al Chamber of Commerce also voted to send a letter to our Senators and Representatives supporting the project Other business discussed was ths after-prom party in May. Janies Reed will again be chairman and Harold Teter will represent the Chamber of Commerce on this committee. This is a unified * project by all organizations in Walkerton.
