Walkerton Students State Fair Awards Recognition came to five Walkerton High School pupils, including two graduates of last year, in the Indiana State Fair displays and activities. Johnson Township 4-H Club had two of the three LaPorte County students who were sent to the Indiana State Fair Girls School of Home Economics Leadership from August 31st to September 9th. The two girls were Helen Cole, daugh er of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cole and a graduate of the class of 1959, and Catherine Knowlton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knowlton and a member of the senior class. Selection is made by the County Agent's office anu associated personnel of LaPorte County on the basis of earned points and qualities of leadership. ship adult leaders are J|rs. Louis Daube and Mrs. Clyde Snodgrass. Two blue ribbons were awarded for entries from Lincoln Township. Barbara Lidy, daughter of Mr .and Mrs. Robert Lidy and a Sophomore, won her blue ribbon in Class “A”; for a cake on display with more than 700 other 4-H baking exhibits. The other blue ribbon award was , received by Bonnie Clingenpeel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Clingenpeel and a freshman at Ball State Teachers College. The award । , was for a dress for school or after-1 . noon. This exhibit was one of those ' selected for special display. Lloyd Thomas, a junior, who received a white ribbon for an entomol- ’ ogy display. His collection of insects had been awarded first place and grand champion rating at the LaPorte County Fair. This was his second year and the achievements are considered excellent for this short period. He works under the direction of William Blaisdell, Vo-: cational Agriculture teacher, and is reporter for the FF.A. DAILEY’S 6-A । Our language classes have been having two minute talks on subjects sfuch as ‘‘Hobbies”, “What I Did on Vacation,” or any other suitable subject .Some proved very interesting. We held election of officer.-, last 1 week. The results were Tim Gardner, president, Denny Johnson vicepresident, Bette Eib secretary, and David Scott treasurer. We have an enrollment of 25 pupils, 14 boys and 11 girls.
