Three Chapters Hold Joint Inspection Last i nuay Nignt Joint inspection of New Cat lisle, North Liberty and Walkerton Chapters O. E. S. was held on September 11th at Walkerton. After a six o clock dinner at the Walkerton Masonic Temple, all adjoin ned t> the high school gym which had 1 eon transformed into an old lashioned sitting room with antique sofa, chairs, tables, kerosene lamps end even tintype photos on the west wall. Handmade nigs were in front of the officers chairs. The East was backed by a huge painting on the front of the stage which showed the sun lising in the East over a lovely lake scene. This was in keeping with the Worthy Grand Matron's motto, "Open the Window Eastward". Thi s painting was flanked with real trees and had a garden path which led from it to the East of the chapter room. The painting was the work, of Mrs. John McKay, the mother of our Mrs. Al Drews. At the Baby Dedication, which was taken care of by the North Liberty officers, there were fifteen children dedicated by our Worthy Grand Matron. Mrs. Russell Stott, assisted by the Matrons of the three chapters, Mrs. Steve Kratovil and Mrs. LaMar Stahly. The Worthy Grand Patron, Russell E. Herr, gave the' prayer and Mrs. C. Shuppert sang "The Irish Lullaby.’’ Fifty-year awards were given Mrs. Milo Slick and Nirs. E. Pence of Walkerton by the Worthy Grand Matron who presented the certificates and the Worthy Grand Patron Dinned the emblems on the ]; dies with a kiss for each. Milo Slick also i waived a n award but due to illness was Puable to attend ;he meeting. However, the Worthy Irand Matron, 'Walkerton’s Worthy Tatron, Mrs. Kratovil and Mrs. L. tahly, went to his home for the presentation, a lovely gesture on the part of Mrs. Stott. The regular inspection was opened by the Walkerton Chapter with Mrs. Glenn Stahly, the Worthy Matron, giving a poem in “Treasure Friends". The Conductress, Mrs. Wayne Dipert, escorted the ' Worthy Grand Matron to the altar ' for introduction and Dr. Elliott Frash sang a parody to “Nothing ; In This World I Wouldn’t Do.” She wa s then escorted to the East thru ■ an arch of crossed scepters formed by the Walkerton Bible Staff. Mrs. Al Drews, placed a. silver crown upon her head. She was then welcomed by our Worthy Matron and given a grand honors. The Associate Conductress, Mrs. C. Reid, then escorted the Worthy Grand Patron to the altar for in- . itodi.ution and Mrs. John McCombs , sang a parody to the song "So ; Rare". He was then escorted to the t East thru an arch formed by the , Bible Staff and presented with a [ silver scepter. He, too, was given . grand honors. Past Grand Patron, > Ray E. Oak, ■ Deputy of District 19, and District Deputy, Mrs. LaMar Stahly, Waik [ erton chapter, were then escorted । to the altar where Dr. Frash sang > a parody to "My Special Ancel". , They, too, were seated >n the East. • Wilton Landrum, of the Cancer Research Committee, Mrs. Ruth Grossman, Grand Representative to Nevada, were then introduced. Presiding Matrons and Patrons then introduced themselves as did the Paast Matron s and Patrons. The 'Worthy Patron and Matron of New Carlisle, Mr. and Mrs. Ken I neth Kaufman, were then escorte,.' East for the initiatory work. Walkerton’s Worthy Matron then presented the Worthy Grand Mationand Patrons with honorary memberships in Wa’.kerton Chapter for themselves and Mr. Stott and Mis Herr. Honorary memberships were also given the Worthy Grand Matron and Patron and Mrs. Herr who was present, by the New Carlisle Chapter. Walkerton officers then relinquished their stations to the New Carlisle officers for the initiat or! of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Paul Their soloist, Charles Goins, sang "'Hold Thou My Hand”, “Whither Thou Goest, I Will Go”, “Others” “If You Believe’’, and the “Saints and Angels” song. After the initia tion, the Worthy Matron and Patron of North Liberty, Mr. an Mrs. Ralph Kaser, were then es corted to the East and their officers assumed their stations for the closing. The Worthy Grand Matron gav<" a lovely talk in closing, thanking the chapters for their work in decorating the room and especially "or the lovely painting which de ">ted her motto so well. She aG praised our Deputy, Mrs. Stahly,
for her work and thanked Walker- i ton Chapter for permitting her to j be her Deputy. Mrs. Stott toll a 1 lovely story about the old Scotch ] fisherman who said it takes two ; oars to guide a boat, whereas if ■ both hands were on one oar the i boat would go around in circles. • Mrs. Stott said it also takes "Faith > anp Work" to ring us to our s-1 • tination. She then read the poem, I "’rhe Night Has a Thousand Eyes." j i She thanked everyone foe all the' , nice things done in her behalf. ■j The Worthy Grand Patron then 1 gave a few words of thanks to all, , । especially Mr. and Mrs. David Mils! ier of Goshen, who had entertained bhim and his wife during their stay I! in th e South Bend District the I ast severa 1 days.
